Some Fans Praise “Nasty” Arsenal Star For “Outstanding” Display vs Burnley

Some Arsenal fans have been heaping praise on Sokratis following another excellent performance during our 3-1 victory over Burnley at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon.
Sokratis joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund last summer in a deal worth around £18m and he’s proven to be an astute piece of business with the Greek international putting in some superb displays at the heart of our defence.
The 30-year-old has shown surprising pace and he loves the physical side of the game – which was just as well this afternoon as he enjoyed an intense battle with Burnley forward Ashley Barnes throughout the game.
At one stage, Barnes had Sokratis in a headlock on the touchline but the Arsenal defender stood his ground and more than matched the overly-aggressive Burnley players this afternoon as we eased to a 3-1 win thanks to a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a late strike from Alex Iwobi.
Mesut Ozil and Aubameyang are likely to grab the headlines after their excellent performances but Sokratis caught the eye of some Arsenal fans who’ve taken to social media to heap praise on the centre-back.
Many have hailed his ‘nasty’ side, saying it’s a quality Arsenal have lacked in defence for some time, another fan labelled Sokratis as an ‘absolute rock’ while one supporter said his display was ‘outstanding’ today.
The Greek defender has had a few injury niggles this season but if can stay fit during the second half of the campaign I think he’ll make a huge difference to the Arsenal back-line – which has looked suspect whenever he’s not played.
Check out what fans have been saying here:
Outstanding again today. What a great signing he has been for Arsenal. MOTM for me @Arsenal #Sokratis pic.twitter.com/dkExzx6Oiv

Sokratis has just the right amount of nasty in him to continually rile up opponents without stepping over the line. A trait Arsenal have sorely needed. #ARSBUR

Credit to where it's due to Sven Mslintat, bringing Sokratis to Arsenal. He's been an absolute rock at the back and by far our best consistent defender. £15 million is a bargain, though he's 30 doesn't look out of shape. #COYG #ARSBUR

He sailed close to the wind at times, but enjoyed seeing Sokratis go a bit ‘Keown’ on Ashley Barnes. An ingredient I think everyone knows we’ve missed for too long.

Sokratis’ willingness to wrestle with Burnley players and make shockingly cynical but helpful fouls is something Arsenal have needed for a while

Sokratis is exactly the kind of centre back we’ve lacked for a decade. Most amount of shithousary I swear ?

Sokratis is the definition of shithouse and I absolutely love him for it. He’s a great #lad.

Sokratis might not be a great passer but he’s been immense this season. True competitor who loves the fight. Impressively consistent despite playing with different partners every game, and in different systems.

I absolutely LOVE Sokratis.
He’s the nasty tough defender we have wanted for AGES.Song with Torreira, these two have given Arsenal a lot more backbone. ??#Papa#ARSBUR https://t.co/ORkdLHLj4I
