Tottenham have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Steven Bergwijn but the £25m-rated PSV Eindhoven winger favours a move to Old Trafford, according to The Sun.
Bergwijn came through the youth ranks at Ajax but joined PSV in 2011 and has become one of the most exciting young talents in Dutch football since breaking in to the first team set-up in 2014.
The 21-year-old is now an established first team player and has provided 9 goals and 9 assists in his 17 Eredivisie games so far this season while he’s already earned two caps for the senior Dutch national team.
The youngsters huge potential has caught the attention of several clubs throughout Europe with The Sun claiming that Tottenham have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Bergwijn while the likes of Inter Milan, West Ham, Bournemouth, Real Sociedad and CSKA Moscow are also credited with an interest.
Mauricio Pochettino has seen his attack decimated as Harry Kane has been ruled out for six weeks, Heung-min Son is away at the Asian Cup while Dele Alli and Lucas Moura are both carrying injuries so the Tottenham boss could be eyeing a swoop for Bergwijn to bolster his options.
However, the newspaper says the young winger is most tempted by a move to Old Trafford and Man Utd are now pursuing a potential £25m deal after sending scouts to watch Bergwijn in action during PSV’s 2-2 draw at Emmen on Sunday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is making a superb case to become United’s permanent manager and the Red Devils are actively looking to strengthen their squad as they look to try and get back challenging for major honours again.
Bergwijn is a pacey, two-footed winger who can play on either flank so he’d give United another option in attack if he does make a move to Old Trafford either this month or in the summer.
