Team news: Tottenham confirm double injury boost but defender misses Dortmund clash
Tottenham have confirmed a double fitness boost ahead of their Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund but a defender will miss the game.
Tottenham will be looking to finish the job and book their place in the quarter finals of the Champions League when they take on Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night.
Spurs have flown out to Germany ahead of tomorrow’s second leg at the Westfalonstadion and Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference where he’s confirmed a double fitness boost.
The Tottenham coach was pleased to reveal that Harry Winks and Eric Dier have travelled with the rest of the first team squad to Germany and will be assessed during their final training session this evening.
Winks missed the 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Saturday afternoon with a minor hip injury while Dier has been on the sidelines recently due to tonsillitis but the midfielder duo could now be back in contention to face Dortmund tomorrow.
Pochettino told TottenhamHotspur.com:
“They [Dier and Winks] are with the squad but we need to assess them this afternoon and tomorrow to see if they are in contention. We will see.”
It would be a huge boost for Spurs if Dier and Winks were available for selection as Pochettino was forced to rely on just Victor Wanyama and Moussa Sissoko in midfield against Arsenal so he’d have two more valuable options in the middle of the park if they pass their late fitness tests.
However, Tottenham will be without Kieran Trippier as the club have confirmed he’s been left out of the travelling squad and has remained in north London while Vincent Janssen is ineligible to play in the Champions League.
Dele Alli will also continue on the sidelines but the team news report on TottenhamHotspur.com suggests that the attacking midfielder could make his long-awaited return from a hamstring injury against Southampton this coming weekend.
Tottenham head in to the second leg against Dortmund holding a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg so the Premier League outfit just need to avoid a heavy defeat tomorrow night to book their place in the last 8.
