Arsenal team news: Club confirms double injury boost ahead of Newcastle clash
Arsenal have confirmed a double injury boost ahead of Monday night’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United. See the latest details here
Arsenal will be looking to cement their position in the top four with a win over Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night.
Ahead of the game, the club have provided a full team news and injury update on Arsenal.com with the latest on the likes of Lucas Torreira, Aaron Ramsey, Nacho Monreal, Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin and Danny Welbeck.
Let’s start with the positive news and Ramsey will be available to face Newcastle as Arsenal have confirmed the midfielder is back in full training after recovering from a minor thigh injury that forced him to miss Wales’ Euro 2020 qualifier against Slovakia.
There is also good news on Monreal as the defender is in contention to take on the Magpies on Monday night after overcoming a calf injury that forced him to remain in north London while the rest of the squad enjoyed a warm-weather training camp in Dubai.
However, Unai Emery will have to make-do without the services of Torreira against Newcastle as the Uruguayan international will serve the final game of his three-match suspension following his sending off against Tottenham earlier this month.
Arsenal will obviously be without our three long-term absentees as Bellerin and Holding continue their rehabilitation from knee ligament injuries while Welbeck is still working his way back from a broken ankle.
The update on Arsenal.com read:
Lucas Torreira
Suspended following red card against Tottenham Hotspur (a).Aaron Ramsey
Left thigh. Back in full training ahead of Newcastle United (h).Nacho Monreal
Right calf. Back in full training ahead of Newcastle United (h).Hector Bellerin
Left knee. Recovering after surgery.Rob Holding
Left knee. Recovering after surgery.Danny Welbeck
Right ankle. Recovering after surgery.
It’s a big boost to have Ramsey and Monreal available and there was no mention of Granit Xhaka in the team news update so it looks like he’s also available despite picking up a thigh problem while playing for Switzerland on Tuesday night.
The midfielder was forced off with 10 minutes remaining during Switzerland’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Denmark and there were fears he’d be facing a spell on the sidelines but it seems the injury wasn’t anything serious.
Arsenal head into the Newcastle game sitting fourth in the table – one point behind Tottenham and two ahead of Man Utd – so we’ll be looking to take advantage of any slip ups from our rivals to cement our place in the top four with a win on Monday.
