Liverpool are eyeing a swoop for Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze as a replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri as Jurgen Klopp prepares to cash-in on the Swiss international this summer, according to Goal.
Despite narrowly missing out on the Premier League title, the Reds have enjoyed a sensational campaign and it could yet end with a major trophy if Liverpool beat Tottenham in the Champions League final next weekend.
Therefore, Klopp is relatively happy with his squad and the German coach isn’t likely to be very busy during the summer transfer window so we shouldn’t be expecting a flurry of big-money purchases over the coming weeks.
However, Goal claim Klopp is ready to freshen things up in attack and suggest that Liverpool will cash-in on Shaqiri if a suitable offer arrives after the 27-year-old fell out-of-favour during the closing months of the season.
The report says Klopp wants to replace the Swiss international with a versatile attacking player and while the likes of Nicolas Pepe, Inaki Williams and Ryan Sessegnon have all been linked, Goal suggests Chukwueze has emerged as the most realistic target.
The 20-year-old is one of the most exciting young talents in Spanish football and he’s enjoyed an excellent campaign with Villarreal where he’s now considered to be an important first team player having progressed through the club’s youth ranks.
Chukwueze contributed 8 goals and 3 assists in all competitions this season to help Villarreal avoid relegation from La Liga and his impressive form has led to speculation linking him with a move to a bigger club this summer.
Liverpool appear to be in the running for his signature and the Nigerian international would be a very useful addition to Klopp’s squad as he’s capable of playing out on either wing or through the middle as an attacking midfielder.

The youngster would also be content with a squad role for now as he’s highly unlikely to replace Mo Salah or Sadio Mane any time soon so Chukwueze could be a shrewd piece of business if Liverpool do end up selling Shaqiri this summer.
