Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Manchester United are in talks for Júnior Firpo…
Manchester United are in talks with Real Betis over the signing of Júnior Firpo and are prepared to pay at least £22m to sign the talented full-back this summer, according to Spanish outlet AS.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be extremely active in the transfer market over the coming months as he looks to try and build a squad capable of competing for trophies after finishing sixth in the Premier League this season.
Defence is a particular area of concern as United shipped 54 goals in the league – 31 more than champions Man City – so Solskjaer knows he needs to improve at the back if the Red Devils are to compete again.
A new left-back is on the agenda as United were overly reliant on Luke Shaw this campaign with the likes of Ashley Young and Matteo Darmian forced to deputise in the unfamiliar position when needed.
Spanish outlet AS suggest that Firpo has emerged as a prime target and claim that Man Utd have now opened negotiations with Real Betis over a potential deal as they look to beat Real Madrid to his signature.
The report says United are prepared to pay between £22m-£26m to sign the 22-year-old and Firpo fits the profile of player Solskjaer is targetting this summer as he looks to bring in talented youngsters rather than more established names.
Firpo has struggled with injuries recently but he’s still considered to be one of the hottest young prospects in La Liga and although he was born in the Dominican Republic, the youngster represents Spain at international level and will take part in the European Under-21 Championships in June.
United may want to try and get a deal wrapped-up quickly as they will face increased competition for his signature if Firpo impresses for his country at the Euro’s next month.

The youngster is predominantly a left-back but he can play further forward or even in the middle of defence if needed so his versatility will be viewed as a very useful asset by Solskjaer and his team.
