Manchester United could hijack Tottenham’s £53m move to sign Giovani Lo Celso after joining the race to land the Real Betis attacker this summer
Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd join Tottenham in the race to sign Giovani Lo Celso….
Manchester United could hijack Tottenham’s £53m move to sign Giovani Lo Celso after joining the race to land the Real Betis attacker this summer, according to reports in Spain via The Sun.
Lo Celso enjoyed a superb debut campaign in Spain after joining Betis an on initial 12-month loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain last summer having struggled to establish himself during a three-year spell in the French capital.
The attacking midfielder provided 16 goals and 6 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions this season to help Betis finish 10th in the La Liga table while he’s also broken into the Argentinean national team set-up.
Betis took up an option to make the move permanent in April when they paid PSG just under £20m for Lo Celso’s signature but the La Liga outfit are now facing a battle to keep hold of the South American beyond this summer.
The Sun claim reports over the weekend said that Tottenham have tabled a £53m bid to sign Lo Celso after Mauricio Pochettino identified him as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen – who’s been tripped to leave Spurs over the coming months.
However, it looks like Tottenham will face stiff competition as not only are Real Madrid reportedly in the running but The Sun cites a report from Marca that claims Manchester United are also showing an interest in Lo Ceslo.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be extremely busy in the transfer market this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of competing for trophies having finished sixth in the league this season as Lo Celso is seemingly on his radar.
The newspaper says Betis are resigned to losing the 23-year-old as they’ll find it difficult to turn down the chance to almost treble their investment in a matter of months – although they’ll owe PSG 20% of any sale.
Lo Celso is a central attacking midfielder who’s known for his creative talents so he’d be an exciting addition for Spurs or Man Utd if either club could lure him to the Premier League this summer.

We’ll have to wait and see how things progress over the coming weeks but the English giants may want to act fast as competition for Lo Celso’s signature will only increase further if he performs well at this summer’s Copa America.
