Man Utd trump Tottenham with £9m-a-year offer but player wants Liverpool move
Manchester United have trumped Tottenham after offering Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot a bumper contract worth £170,000-a-week
Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd have made an offer to Adrien Rabiot…
Manchester United have trumped Tottenham after offering Adrien Rabiot a bumper contract worth £170,000-a-week but the midfielder wants to join Liverpool, according to a report by the Daily Mail.
Rabiot is a product of the Paris Saint-Germain youth system and has made 226 appearances since breaking into the first team set-up in 2012 but the midfielder’s future lies away from the Parc des Prince after failing to sign a new contract.
The 24-year-old was frozen out by boss Thomas Tuchel in December after making it clear to the Ligue 1 champions he wanted to leave as a free agent at the end of the season and his situation has alerted several clubs here in the Premier League.
Tottenham have been strongly linked with Rabiot in recent months and Le10Sport claims the north Londoners are ready to put forward a proposal but the midfielder isn’t keen on linking up with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Manchester United have also been chasing Rabiot and it seems they’ve stolen a march on Spurs as the Daily Mail are carrying a report that claims United have now offered the Frenchman a bumper contract worth around £9m per season plus a £4.5m signing-on bonus. The Daily Mail’s claim is supported by the Le10Sport report which also says United have made a lucrative offer to Rabiot.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be busy in the transfer market overhauling his squad this summer after they finished sixth in the league and Rabiot is likely to be viewed as a direct replacement for Ander Herrera – who’s leaving Old Trafford after running down his contract.
Rabiot would be an excellent signing for United if they could successfully get a deal wrapped-up, however, that may not be easy despite the lucrative offer that’s reportedly been put on the table.
That’s because the Daily Mail says Rabiot would prefer to join Liverpool and the midfielder could now be holding out to see if Jurgen Klopp steps-up his interest in him before he makes a final decision over his future.
Liverpool have been linked with Rabiot over the past 12 months and Klopp may need another midfielder this summer with Adam Lallana tipped to leave Anfield while James Milner is yet to sign a new contract.

However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will formalise their interest in Rabiot so Man Utd are still well placed to sign the French international on a free transfer this summer.
