Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Bruno Fernandes…
Manchester United are hoping to agree a deal to sign Bruno Fernandes during talks with Sporting Lisbon this week after Tottenham entered the race for the attacking midfielder, according to reports in Portugal via the Mirror.
Fernandes has just come off the back of a sensational campaign in Portugal that saw him provide 32 goals and 18 assists in just 53 games to earn a reputation as one of the most productive attackers in European football.
The 24-year-old’s superb form has alerted a number of top clubs with A Bola claiming that Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid have all been tracking his progress over the past few months.
United emerged as the front runners for his signature after boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly made the Portuguese international a key transfer target as the Norwegian coach looks to overhaul his squad this summer.
Solskjaer needs to inject some creativity to his side after they finished sixth in the Premier League this season and Fernandes could be viewed as a replacement for Paul Pogba amid speculation the Frenchman could leave Old Trafford.
The Mirror are now citing A Bola as reporting that United have requested formal talks with Sporting Lisbon this week after learning that Tottenham have made a late play to try and hijack their proposed move.
Mauricio Pochettino is set to dip into the market for an attacking midfielder to replace Christian Eriksen after he went public with his desire to seek a new challenge this summer and it seems Spurs have identified Fernandes as a potential solution.
However, A Bola, via the Mirror, says Man Utd have now stepped-up their interest and hope to get a deal worth between £62m-£70m agreed this week with a view to announcing the transfer after the Nations League concludes this weekend.
Fernandes will be representing Portugal at the tournament – which kicks off tonight – so United are hoping to agree terms over the coming days and unveil the attacker as their first major summer signing early next week.

We’ll have to wait and see if Tottenham step-up their interest and test Sporting’s resolve with a proposal of their own but as it stands it looks like Man Utd are in pole position to sign Fernandes and I think he’d be an exciting addition to their squad.
