Arsenal & Liverpool hold talks over £35m star but Man Utd favourites to seal deal

Arsenal and Liverpool have held talks about signing Moussa Dembele this summer but Manchester United are considered favourites to seal a deal for the Lyon hitman, according to L’Equipe via the Mirror.

Dembele made his name during a two-year spell at Celtic where he scored 51 goals in 94 games before earning a move to Lyon last summer and he enjoyed an excellent debut campaign in France having scored 23 goals in his 52 appearances.

His impressive form in front of goal has caught the eye of clubs here in the Premier League as the Mirror are citing a report from L’Equipe that claims Arsenal and Liverpool have been in touch with Lyon to express their interest.

Unai Emery is expected to overhaul his squad this summer after Arsenal finished outside the top four last season and the Gunners coach could be eyeing Dembele as a possible replacement for Alexandre Lacazette or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with the star duo both linked with moves away from the Emirates.

Liverpool are also being backed to dip into the transfer market for another striker to compete with Roberto Firmino next season as Daniel Sturridge has left Anfield and Divock Origi’s long-term future is also in doubt.

Dembele is seemingly on Jurgen Klopp’s radar, however, L’Equipe claim it’s Man Utd who are considered favourites ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool to sign the striker as they believe the Red Devils are the ‘most capable’ of sealing a deal.

The news comes following a report from last month, via the Mirror, that claimed Man Utd have placed an offer worth around £35m [€40m] on the table for Dembele’s signature so it seems the Manchester giants are in pole position.

Ole Gunner Solskjaer is gearing-up for a busy summer and the United coach could be eyeing Dembele as a potential replacement for Romelu Lukaku amid speculation the Belgian international is leaving Old Trafford this summer.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but it looks like Dembele could be heading for the Premier League with United, Arsenal and Liverpool all vying for the 22-year-old’s signature and I think he’d be an exciting signing for any of the trio.
