Manchester United and Tottenham are battling it out to sign £40m-rated midfielder Youri Tielemans this summer as the Monaco star prepares to decide his future over the coming weeks, according to reports.
Tielemans came through the youth ranks at Anderlecht and made 139 appearances for their first team but really made his name in Europe during a two-year spell at Monaco before joining Leicester City on loan back in January.
The 22-year-old was a huge success during his short stint in the Premier League as he provided 3 goals and 5 assists in just 13 appearances to help the Foxes secure a ninth-placed finish in the table.
The Belgian international has returned to Monaco but is expected to seal a permanent move away this summer and Sky Sports claim Manchester United and Tottenham are battling-it-out over a deal to sign the midfielder.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has wasted no time strengthening his squad this summer after agreeing a deal to sign Daniel James but the United boss is expected to bring in several more signings before the end of the summer.
A new midfielder is on the agenda as Ander Herrera has left the club while Paul Pogba is being strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford and it seems United have identified Tielemans as a potential target.
Mauricio Pochettino is also gearing-up for a busy summer as he looks to further strengthen his Tottenham squad having lost the Champions League final last weekend and Tielemans could be viewed as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen after he hinted he wants a new challenge.
Tielemans has now suggested that he’s been surprised by the caliber of clubs that have expressed an interest in signing him this summer and called Man Utd and Spurs ‘really big teams in England’.
The midfielder says he’s flattered to have attracted interest from such illustrious clubs and confirmed he wants to secure a permanent move away from Monaco over the coming weeks.
Speaking ahead of Belgium’s Euro 202 qualifier against Kazakhstan on Saturday, Tielemans is quoted as saying the Mirror.
“We’ll see which club it will be. The only thing I can say is that things are moving. A lot of clubs have shown interest and we’ll see in the next few weeks which club it will be.
“(Manchester United and Spurs) are really big teams in England and in Europe so yeah, it’s flattering to hear those names. For me, it’s good, it gives me confidence. I’ll just try to play my game on the pitch and to do my best.”
“I was very well received in Leicester. Things went very fast, but they put me at ease right away. I felt very good on the pitch, I had good team-mates and good coaches.
“I am grateful to the club for giving me a taste of the Premier League. I was pleasantly surprised by the clubs that got in touch with my agent and my entourage. Given how things have been in recent weeks, I’m unlikely to go back to Monaco, and after that it will depend on negotiations.
“The loan in January was the best solution at that time. I want to be stable now, to be fixed.”

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but the Mirror suggests Tielemans will cost around £40m and I think he’d be a great signing for the likes of Man Utd or Tottenham if they could win the race for his signature.
