Liverpool submit £71m bid to sign Man Utd target, 5-year contract also on the table
Liverpool have stolen a march on Manchester United after submitting a £71m bid to sign Nicolas Pepe and offered the Lille attacker a five-year contract
Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool table an offer for Man Utd target Nicolas Pepe…
Liverpool have stolen a march on Manchester United after submitting a £71m bid to sign Nicolas Pepe while they’ve also offered the Lille attacker a five-year contract, according to Corriere dello Sport reporter Nicolo Schira.
Pepe has developed into one of the most exciting players in French football since joining Lille from Angers two years ago and the young attacker contributed 23 goals and 12 assists in 41 games last season to help secure his club a second-placed finish in Ligue 1.
The 24-year-old’s sensational form over the past year has alerted clubs here in the Premier League as Duncan Castles claimed last week that Liverpool and Manchester United have both expressed their interest in bringing Pepe to England.
The Times journalist told the Transfer Window Podcast that Liverpool have been in negotiations with Pepe’s representatives while he says United have made contact with Lille to discuss a potential deal for the Ivory Coast international.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already secured a deal to sign winger Daniel James from Swansea City but the United boss is expected to bring in several more players this summer and it seems Pepe is on his radar.
However, it looks like Liverpool have stolen a march on Man Utd as Corriere dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed the Merseysiders have now tabled an offer worth around £71m [€80m] for Pepe’s signature.
#Liverpool want to close Nicolas #Pepe. #Klopp has offered €80M to #Lille and for him a contract until 2024 (€3M plus bonus at year). #transfers #LFC

That figure matches what Lille are reportedly wanting for the attacker and Schira claims Liverpool have also put forward a five-year contract to Pepe’s representatives as they look to try and close out a deal.
Jurgen Klopp already has one of the best front three’s in world football at his disposal but the German coach knows he needs to bring in support for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as they look to compete on all fronts next season.
Pepe would be an excellent signing as he can play anywhere across the attacking positions but until a deal is over the line we could still see the likes of Man Utd stepping-up their interest with a rival offer.

Let’s see how things develop over the coming days but I think Pepe would be a superb signing for Liverpool or United if either club could win the race for his signature this summer.
