Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Bruno Fernandes…
Liverpool have stolen a march on Manchester United after tabling a formal £40m offer for Sporting Lisbon attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to reports in Portugal via the Daily Star.
Fernandes is one of the most sought-after players of the summer window after enjoying a sensational campaign with Sporting last season that saw him contribute 32 goals and 18 assists in 53 appearances making him one of the most productive players in Europe.
The 24-year-old’s superb form has attracted plenty of interest from the Premier League with Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool all linked with a swoop for the Portuguese international in recent weeks.
It appeared United were in pole position as the Daily Mail reported recently that Tottenham and Liverpool had pulled out of the race to sign Fernandes, paving the way for the Red Devils to lure him to Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to overhaul his squad after United finished sixth in the league last season and the Norwegian coach could be eyeing Fernandes as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba after he went public with his desire to leave this summer.
However, it looks like Liverpool are still in the race to sign the Portuguese attacker and they’ve now stolen a march on Man Utd as the Daily Star are citing a report from Correio da Manha that claims the Merseysiders have made a £40m [€45m] bid for Fernandes.
Jurgen Klopp is only expected to make subtle changes to his squad after winning the Champions League last season but the Liverpool boss is being tipped to strengthen his midfield options and Fernandes is seemingly on his radar.
The Sporting Lisbon star is a central attacking midfielder so he could be viewed as a replacement for Adam Lallana amid speculation the former England international could leave Anfield this summer after falling out of favour.
