Transfer madness: 4 targets Man Utd should sign this summer

With the transfer window in full swing we take a look at why Man Utd should sign Sancho, Bale, Koulibaly and Varane this summer.

Now that the dust has settled on the season just gone for Manchester United fans, it is a time of quiet contemplation. There is no doubt that shoots of recovery are present under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and that he has lifted the club from its apparent slumber under previous managers. However, a 6th place finish in the league and no Champion’s League football for the coming season still leaves many frustrated with life at Old Trafford.

This makes the summer transfer dealings at Manchester United key to helping them improve for the new campaign. If Solskjaer can off-load those who are not up to it and bring in new players who are, his team could be poised for a much better league finish and maybe even a trophy or two. At present the odds for them to win the Premier League next year are around 20/1 but they could tumble with the right players coming in. Be sure to keep an eye on Sportsbet.io news for the latest transfer gossip and how it affects Utd’s odds.

The burning question for most Utd fans though is just which players could come in and make the impact that is needed? With the transfer gossip getting even more frenzied, the below named would be great additions if they could be signed.

Jadon Sancho

The main thing that many fans think Utd need to do is to go back to signing younger, keener players that are more energetic. English wonderkid Sancho certainly fits the bill after an explosive season on loan at Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City.

He could be a great signing for Solskjaer if life at the Etihad is something he doesn’t fancy now his loan is up. He would fill the right midfield spot for Utd which has been something of a problem for them in recent times. With pace to burn, plenty of skill and a great work ethic, Sancho is exactly the sort of player needed at Old Trafford to bring back the glory years. Seeing him link up with Rashford and Martial would certainly be something to excite supporters.

Gareth Bale

Things have not been rosy for Bale since his move to Real Madrid a few years back. He has never really settled there and never truly been loved by the fans of Los Blanco’s. Things are not helped by his apparently strained relationship with manager Zinedine Zidane. This leaves a move for him open and, possibly, at a decent price.

But why sign Bale? Although 29 now, he still has all the world-class qualities that made him so great. Quick, and with an eye for goal, along with decent passing ability, he has also matured into a leader over the years. His experience and leadership is just what Utd need and would be important if a lot of younger players did come into Old Trafford this summer. Bale would also help bring some versatility to the Utd squad as he can play up front or in the wide midfield positions as needed.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Most fans know that it is in defence that most work must be done over the summer. Players like Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have had their chances to shine but have proved to not be good enough for such a top-level side.

One player who many think would really toughen Utd up is Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. He is widely seen as one of the best central defenders around and has honed his craft in the technical Italian league during the last few years. Uncompromising and able to handle himself physically, he also possesses good ball skills and passing for a defender. The only challenge here could be the fact that the latest transfer rumours have other top teams like Real Madrid in the hunt for him, too.

Raphael Varane

As defence has been so poor for the Red Devils in recent times, many people think one new addition is not enough. If Solskjaer agrees, this might see him splash out on Varane as well as Koulibaly. It is clear to see what Frenchman Varane would bring to the table. An elegant, graceful defender, he is also remarkably experienced for his age. At only 25, he has already won four Champions League titles, a World Cup and two La Liga trophies. This kind of winning mentality will really help Utd get back on top once more.

Can Utd have a better season in 2019/20?

One thing is for sure – all their fans will hope so! Although it was not that bad last year, supporters of the Red Devils are desperate to have some exciting football to watch again and be challenging at the top end of the table. With the right people coming in and the bad apples going out, it could well happen.
