Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka after agreeing a deal with Crystal Palace worth £55m for the talented full-back, according to the Daily Record.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for another right-back this summer as Matteo Darmian is expected to follow Antonio Valencia out of the club, Diogo Dalot is considered too raw to be first choice and Ashley Young turns 34 next month so a long-term replacement is needed.
Wan-Bissaka has been touted as United’s primary target in recent weeks but they’ve been struggling to agree terms with Crystal Palace after reportedly seeing their latest £35m plus £15m in add ons offer rejected by the Londoners.
However, it looks like there has been a breakthrough in negotiations as Daily Record journalist Duncan Castles claims sources close to the deal have informed him Man Utd have now agreed a fee worth £55m with Crystal Palace for Wan-Bissaka’s signature.
That figure would represent a world record for a full-back as it would top the £52m Manchester City paid for Benjamin Mendy two years ago, so it will be a huge statement of intent by Manchester United.
Solskjaer is looking to overhaul his squad after a disappointing campaign saw them finish sixth last season and strengthening the defence is a priority as United conceded 54 Premier League goals last year – the most they’ve conceded in 40 years.
It looks like Man Utd are ready to solve one problem area in their back-four with the impending arrival of Wan-Bissaka and the 21-year-old should prove to be an excellent addition to their squad.
The England U21 international has enjoyed a meteoric rise since making his senior debut for Palace in February 2018 as he established himself as a key player under Roy Hodgson having started in 38 games last season.
