Manchester United are eyeing £70m-rated Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba this summer, according to the Evening Standard.
Pogba’s future at Old Trafford has been in serious doubt since he went public with his desire to seek a new challenge this summer and his agent Mino Raiola is doing his best to negotiate a move ahead of the new season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists the club won’t be bullied into selling the French international and he hopes to convince Pogba to stay with Man Utd for at least another season before heading to Spain or Italy.
However, the 26-year-old appears intent on forcing his way out of Old Trafford so Solskjaer is having to make contingency plans in-case the Manchester giants have to cash-in on the former Juventus midfielder.
United have been linked with a number of potential replacements in recent weeks but the Evening Standard claims Eriksen is viewed as the ‘ideal solution’ to replace Pogba if he’s sold this summer.
Eriksen has just one year remaining on his current contract with Tottenham and has indicated he too would like a new challenge after refusing to sign a new deal at White Hart Lane, despite Tottenham’s best efforts to tie him down to an extension.
Spurs appear to be planning for life without Eriksen as they’ve been strongly linked with Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos in recent days while Real Betis star Giovani Lo Celso has also been touted as a target for Mauricio Pochettino.
The Evening Standard says Eriksen would cost Man Utd at least £70m, although Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is known to be a tough negotiator and may demand a premium to sell to a direct domestic rival.

Solskjaer’s preference is to convince Pogba to remain at the club but if they had to sell then Eriksen would be a superb replacement if United were able to get a deal agreed with Tottenham.
