Manchester United are confident they can seal a £75m deal to sign Harry Maguire and will lure the Leicester City defender with a lucrative contract
Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, Man Utd remain confident of signing Harry Maguire….
Manchester United are confident they can seal a £75m deal to sign Harry Maguire and will lure the Leicester City defender with a lucrative contract offer, according to the Daily Mail.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to overhaul his squad this summer after finishing sixth in the league last season and the United boss has already snapped-up winger Daniel James and right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
However, Solskjaer needs to further enhance his defence after Manchester United conceded 54 Premier League goals last season and Maguire has been touted as a prime target in the media over the past few weeks.
It appeared a potential deal was going to be difficult to pull off after Sky Sports reported last week that United had seen an opening £70m offer rejected by Leicester City with the Foxes holding out for a world record deal for the defender.
However, the Daily Mail claim Man Utd are increasingly confident they’ll fend off rival interest from Man City to land Maguire as Pep Guardiola’s side are reluctant to pay huge money for the England international.
The newspaper says talks are on-going between United and Leicester and while the Foxes want around £85m for Maguire, United feel they can strike a deal closer to £75m and they’ll offer the 26-year-old a lucrative contract to make the move to Old Trafford.
In a further indication that a deal can be agreed, the Daily Mail says Leicester are actively seeking a replacement for Maguire and are eyeing a move for £40m-rated Burnley defender James Tarkowski.
Manchester United currently have six centre-backs in their first team squad and the report says they’ve offered to include a player as part of any agreement for Maguire but Leicester insist it needs to be a straight cash deal.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but Maguire would be an excellent signing for Man Utd if they could get a deal done as he’d be a big upgrade on the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
