Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, Man Utd are linked with Benoit Badiashile…
Manchester United are lining-up a move for £31.5m-rated Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile as a cheaper alternative to Leicester City’s Harry Maguire, according to L’Equipe via the Daily Mail.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperately trying to further strengthen his squad ahead of the new season having already signed winger Daniel James from Swansea and right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.
The Norwegian coach needs to tighten his defence after United conceded 54 Premier League goals last season – the most they’ve conceded for 40 years – and Maguire has been widely touted as his prime target.
However, the Daily Mail says Man Utd remain locked in negotiations with Leicester after seeing their opening offer rejected and the Manchester giants have so far refused to meet their £85m valuation.
If a compromise deal can’t be reached then Solskjaer is going to be forced to look elsewhere and the Daily Mail are citing a report from L’Equipe that claims United have lined-up Badiashile as an alternative target.
The French publication says Man Utd have been keeping a close eye on the 18-year-old’s progress after he broke into the Monaco first team last season having progressed through their youth ranks.
The French Under-19 international would fit with Solskjaer’s policy of buying young players who can develop further under his guidance at Old Trafford and Badiashile showed he has huge potential during his 26 appearances last season.
However, a deal wouldn’t be straightforward as L’Equipe says Monaco want around £31.5m [€35m] for the defender and United could face competition from Wolves and Valencia if they formalise their interest.

No doubt Solskjaer will continue to fight for Maguire but if a deal can’t be found with Leicester then it looks like United may turn their attention to Badiashile and he’d be an exciting player for the future if they managed to lure him to Old Trafford.
