Deal agreed: Player set to undergo medical after Man Utd agree £80m deal
Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, Man Utd close-in on Harry Maguire…
Harry Maguire is set to undergo his medical on Monday after Manchester United finally agreed a deal for the centre-back worth £80m with Leicester City, according to The Sun.
United have been trying to sign Maguire all summer after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer identified the England international as the man to help tighten up his defence after the Manchester giants conceded 54 Premier League goals last season.
The Mirror reported on Saturday evening that Maguire had informed Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers that he wanted to leave the King Power Stadium and it looks like that has paved the way for a deal to be struck with United.
After rejecting their initial bid of £70m, The Sun claims Leicester have now accepted Man Utd’s latest offer worth £80m in total with £60m being paid upfront and a further £20m coming in add-ons.
The newspaper says Maguire is now set to travel to Manchester to undergo his medical on Monday and put pen-to-paper on a long-term contract after United beat-off competition from City to secure his signature.
If the transfer goes through, Maguire will become the most expensive defender in history as the £80m deal will surpass the £75m Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.
Leicester will make a huge profit having signed Maguire for £17m two years ago and The Sun says the Foxes have already found a replacement for the 26-year-old after agreeing a £45m deal to sign Lewis Dunk from Brighton.
We’ll have to wait for further developments over the next 24 hours but if these reports prove accurate then United are about the wrap-up their third signing of the summer having already snapped-up Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The fee may be huge, but Maguire would be an excellent signing for Manchester United as he’ll be a big upgrade on the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones so no doubt his arrival would be warmly welcomed by the fans.
