Man Utd express interest in £70m Premier League star as Solskjaer eyes 3rd signing
Manchester United are interested in signing £70m Tottenham star Christian Eriksen as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to add a creative midfielder to his ranks
We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, Man Utd are keen on Christian Eriksen…
Manchester United are interested in signing £70m-rated Tottenham star Christian Eriksen as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster his squad this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Solskjaer has already signed highly-rated winger Daniel James and right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka but the United boss is still hoping to further strengthen his squad ahead of the new season and a creative player is on the agenda.
Paul Pogba continues to be linked with a big-money move away from Old Trafford but regardless of the Frenchman’s future, the Daily Mail says Solskjaer still wants to sign a creative midfielder before the window shuts in two weeks time.
Man Utd have been linked with Sporting Lisbon ace Bruno Fernandes all summer while reports in Italy suggest a deal for Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is close to completion but it seems Solskjaer has another target in mind.
The Daily Mail claims United are keen to sign Eriksen and have now asked to be kept informed of any developments regarding his future as Tottenham prepare to cash-in on the Danish international.
Eriksen has been a superb servant for Spurs since arriving from Ajax in 2013 with the 27-year-old forming an excellent understanding with the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Hueng-min Son in recent years.
However, the playmaker has just one year remaining on his contract and he admitted earlier in the summer that he wants a new challenge so Tottenham could be forced to sell while they can still command a sizable fee.
The Daily Mail suggests the asking price would be around £70m but it remains to be seen whether Spurs would sell to Man Utd considering the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have also been linked.
No doubt Daniel Levy would rather do business abroad than sell to a domestic rival but Tottenham may need the money from Eriksen’s sale to complete their proposed move for Real Betis star Giovani Lo Celso.
The newspaper says Tottenham and Eriksen are aware of United’s interest and Mauricio Pochettino is willing to let the Dane leave as he looks to create a new-look midfield built around Lo Celso and club record signing Tanguy Ndombele.

Eriksen would obviously be an excellent signing for Man Utd if they could pull it off but we’ll have to wait and see how things develop as Tottenham will be reluctant to strengthen a direct rival unless they absolutely have to.
