Solskjaer instructs Woodward to complete deal as Man Utd boss eyes 3rd signing
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has instructed Ed Woodward to finalise a deal to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City as soon as possible, according to Sky Sports
We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, the latest on Man Utd’s pursuit of Harry Maguire…
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has instructed Ed Woodward to finalise a deal to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City as soon as possible, according to Sky Sports News.
Solskjaer has been chasing Maguire all summer after identifying the England international as the man to strengthen his defence after Man Utd conceded a whopping 54 Premier League goals last season.
The Mirror reported earlier this month that Maguire had told Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers that he wanted to leave the King Power Stadium after they rejected United’s opening £70m offer with the Foxes demanding at least £80m for their star man.
Talks between the two clubs have been in deadlock but Sky Sports News claim Solskjaer has now urged executive vice chairman Ed Woodward to get a deal agreed with Leicester as soon as possible.
Solskjaer has always been keen to get his new recruits on board well ahead of the new season so they would have time to adjust to life at Old Trafford and he’s been successful in landing Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka so far this summer.
However, with the campaign kicking off in just two weeks time, the Man Utd boss is seemingly losing patience and has now made it clear he’s desperate to get Maguire on board as a matter of urgency.
Woodward hasn’t travelled on United’s pre-season tour of the Far East as he’s stayed back in Manchester to try and get deals agreed for their remaining transfer targets and the Evening Standard says he’s determined to get a deal agreed for Maguire.
No doubt United are reluctant to pay what would be a world record fee for a defender as £80m is a huge amount of money but Maguire would be an upgrade on the likes of Phil Jones or Chris Smalling so you can see why Solskjaer wants a deal done.
