We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, Arsenal close-in on Tierney….

Arsenal are increasingly confident of signing Kieran Tierney and are edging closer to agreeing a deal with Celtic, according to Sky Sports News.
Unai Emery has been chasing Tierney all summer after identifying the Scottish international as the man to strengthen our options at left-back amid on-going doubts over Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac.
Emery doesn’t seem to fancy Monreal at left-back as the Spaniard spent most of his time playing in a back three last season and although Kolasinac was dangerous going forward the Bosnian was exposed defensively at times.
So we need a player who’s solid at the back, a threat going forward and is comfortable playing at both left-back or as a wing-back and Tierney has emerged as Arsenal’s prime transfer target this summer.
After already seeing two previous offers rejected, Sky Sports News claim Arsenal are now edging closer to reaching an agreement with Celtic with the Gunners believed to be increasingly confident a deal will be agreed soon.
The report says Arsenal’s last offer met Celtic’s £25m asking price but the SPL Champions weren’t happy with the number of add-ons we included in the offer as many were dependent on us qualifying for the Champions League.
However, we haven’t given up hope of landing Tierney and Sky Sports suggests negotiations are now progressing well so Arsenal’s third offer is expected to be accepted by Celtic once it’s formally put on the table.
Tierney would be an excellent signing if we could get this proposed deal over the line as the 22-year-old has developed into one of the best left-backs in British football since emerging from the Celtic youth academy to become a first team regular.
It looks like it’s going to be a busy end to the transfer window at the Emirates as we just completed a double swoop for Dani Ceballos and William Saliba while the BBC claims we’ve agreed a £72m deal to sign Lille attacker Nicolas Pepe.
If Arsenal could add Tierney as well then Emery would have had an excellent transfer window – although I still feel we need to bring in an experienced centre-back with Laurent Koscielny pushing for a move to France.

It’s good that arsenal is busy in the transfer but mainly arsenal needs a strong central defender and also the coach should check himself the way he selects the team.

Assuming all goes to plan… (when does it ever?), we are just a CB short of a quality team. Sokratis is dependable, but if Holding returns to the team (and his previous form), he’ll be the one lining up with our new CB. Although he has tainted his legacy with his recent behaviour, Koscielny still has huge boots to fill. Replacing him adequately will be the biggest challenge of the window, IMO.
