Medical details revealed after Man Utd agree record £80m deal to sign Maguire
Harry Maguire will undergo his medical tomorrow after Manchester United finally agreed a record £80m deal with Leicester City for his signature
We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the world. Here, Man Utd agree a deal for Harry Maguire…
Harry Maguire will undergo his medical tomorrow after Manchester United finally agreed a record £80m deal with Leicester City for his signature, according to the Manchester Evening News.
United have been chasing Maguire all summer after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer identified the England international as the man to help shore-up a defence that conceded 54 Premier League goals last season.
The Manchester giants have been frustrated in their attempts to get a deal agreed with Leicester City as the Foxes have been demanding upwards of £90m-£95m having rejected United’s opening £70m offer at the start of July [Source: Sky Sports News].
However, the negotiations have progressed this week after the centre-back informed Brendan Rodgers that he wanted to leave the King Power Stadium and it seems an agreement has finally been reached.
The M.E.N are one of several media outlets who’re reporting that United have agreed a world recent fee for a defender after Leicester accepted their improved £80m offer – which is an up-front fee with no add-ons.
The deal will eclipse the £75m Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk 18 months ago making Maguire the most expensive defender in history so it’s easy to understand why Leicester felt it was too good an offer to turn down.
The M.E.N claims Magurie will now undergo his medical in Manchester on Saturday while the BBC also says the defender is expected to complete his medical examinations over the weekend so it looks like the deal should be wrapped-up over the next 48 hours.
United’s need for a top class centre-back increased after Eric Bailly was ruled out for up to five months with a serious knee injury but the M.E.N says Solskjaer is still willing to sell Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo before the window closes next week.
Once he completes his move to Old Trafford, Maguire is expected to partner Victor Lindelof at the heart of the United defence this season and he should prove to be a big upgrade on the likes of Smalling and Phil Jones.
