Man Utd set for major injury boost ahead of Arsenal showdown
Manchester United are set to be handed a major injury boost with Anthony Martial expected to return for Monday’s clash with Arsenal
Manchester United are set to be handed a major injury boost with Anthony Martial expected to return for Monday’s clash with Arsenal, according to the Evening Standard.
Martial has been on the sidelines since suffering a thigh injury in late August and has been forced to miss United’s last four matches against Southampton, Leicester City, West Ham and Rochdale.
The Frenchman has been sorely missed as Man Utd dropped points against the Saints and the Hammers in the league while they needed penalties to see-off Rochdale in the Carabao Cup following a disappointing 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
However, it looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set for a welcome boost as the Evening Standard are reporting that Martial is expected to be passed fit to return to the squad for Monday’s visit of Arsenal.
The news will be significant for United as Marcus Rashford is set to miss the game with a groin injury that he sustained against West Ham last weekend so Solskjaer could certainly do with Martial’s presence up front.
The former Monaco forward started the season in great form after scoring 2 goals and assisting another in his first three matches and Man Utd desperately need more firepower having not scored more than 1 goal in any of their last seven games in all competitions.
In fact, the Manchester giants have failed to score more than once in 17 of their last 20 matches so Solskjaer is being criticised for not bringing in an experienced replacement for Romelu Lukaku in the summer.
However, one positive for United is the emergence of Mason Greenwood with the teenager scoring in each of his last two appearances so he could be in Solskjaer’s thoughts for a starting spot against Arsenal on Monday.
United head into the game sitting eighth in the table – three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal – so they desperately need to get back to winning ways to close the gap on the leading pack.
