Chelsea have been handed a triple fitness boost as N’Golo Kante, Olivier Giroud and Kurt Zouma all took part in full training ahead of Wednesday night’s trip to Lille, the club have confirmed.
The Blues head to France this afternoon ahead of their second Champions League Group H game and it looks like Frank Lampard’s squad will be boosted by the return of three experienced players.
Kante was forced to miss Chelsea’s win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend due to a niggling hamstring injury and although Lampard said after the game on Saturday it was only a minor issue the midfielder was still a doubt for the Lille trip.
However, the French international was back among the squad that were put through their paces at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground this afternoon so it looks like Kante will be in the squad for tomorrow night’s match.
Giroud and Zouma both missed the victory over Brighton on Saturday due to illness but the duo were also in full training today and should be available for Chelsea’s Champions League clash on Wednesday night.
Giroud may have to settle for a place on the bench if he’s involved in the squad to face Lille as Tammy Abraham is Lampard’s first choice option up front while Michy Batshuayi are also vying for a start after scoring a brace in the League Cup last week.
However, Zouma’s availability could be important for Chelsea Football Club as Antonio Rudiger is still unavailable as he continues to recover from a groin injury that’s kept him out of the last two matches.
Emerson Palmeiri also looks set to miss the trip to Lille as he wasn’t involved in training today after missing out with a thigh injury recently while Ruben Loftus-Cheek continues to work his way back from a serious Achilles injury.
Chelsea head to France looking to get their first points on the board in the Champions League this season after losing at home to Valencia in their Group H opener two weeks ago.
