Manchester United will look to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup when they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. Here is the team we think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will select for the game:
Goalkeeper: David De Gea hasn’t travelled to the capital so he’ll be rested with Sergio Romero coming in between the sticks tomorrow night.
Defence: Man Utd played a flat back four during the win at Norwich on Sunday but Solskjaer is being tipped to deploy a back three/five against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. One of Victor Lindelof and Maguire are likely to be rested with Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones in-line for recalls.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka could keep his place in the right wing-back position but Solskjaer has hinted that teen star Brandon Williams will get a chance to shine on the left after putting in a hugely impressive performance in the Europa League last week.
Ashley Young has been named in the travelling squad, according to the Manchester Evening News, but he may be on the bench while Luke Shaw and Axel Tuanzebe remain out through injury.
Midfield: Man Utd will once again be without the services of Paul Pogba as he’s been ruled out until December with an on-going foot injury while Nemanja Matic is also ruled out against his former side due to a muscle issue.
Scott McTominay should continue in midfield as he’s become a vital part of the Manchester United starting eleven this season. Fred put in a solid shift at the weekend but Solskjaer has suggested youngster James Garner will be given an opportunity in the middle of the park against Chelsea.
Attack: Solskjaer has surprisingly not included Mason Greenwood in the squad for tomorrow nights game so it will be interesting to see who starts up front for United. Marcus Rashford is expected to be rested so we could see Anthony Martial leading the line up front.
Daniel James is likely to be given a breather so Jesse Lingard should be in-line for a recall against Chelsea while Juan Mata may come in to replace Andreas Pereira after being named on the bench at the weekend.
