Major injury concern for Liverpool as key player faces spell on the sidelines
Liverpool are sweating over the fitness of Mohamed Salah after giving him an extended period of time off in order to overcome an ankle injury
Liverpool are sweating over the fitness of Mohamed Salah after giving him an extended period of time off in order to fully overcome a niggling ankle injury, according to Sky Sports.
Salah has been ruled out of Egypt’s upcoming games against Kenya and Comoros due to an on-going ankle issue that’s hampered him in recent weeks and was photographed wearing a protective boot on his left foot on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old will now head back to Merseyside to undergo treatment and continue his rehabilitation but Sky Sports claims Liverpool have given Salah an extended period of rest in order to fully recover from the injury.
The news outlet says it’s not clear how long the Egyptian international will be on the sidelines for but he is considered as a major doubt for Liverpool’s Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on November 23.
Salah has been struggling with the ankle issue since limping off during Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City over a month ago after being on the wrong end of a late tackle from Foxes midfielder Hamza Choudhury.
The Reds attacker missed the subsequent draw with Manchester United before returning to feature in games against Genk, Tottenham and Aston Villa but he wasn’t 100% fit and failed to complete the full ninety minutes in two of those matches.
Salah then aggravated the injury further after being caught by Fernandinho during the win over City last weekend and it looks like he’s now set for a spell on the sidelines as he looks to fully overcome the issue.
The news will be a huge concern to Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool gear up for a busy period that seems them compete in the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup and Club World Cup over the next few weeks.
Klopp will be hoping Salah is able to make a swift recover but he’s also sweating over the fitness of Andy Robertson after he withdrew from the Scotland squad having also picked up an ankle injury during the 3-1 win over Man City on Sunday.
