Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Jadon Sancho with the £100m-rated attacker eyeing a move away from Borussia Dortmund, according to the Daily Mail.
Sancho was a product of the Watford youth system and spent two years with Manchester City before sealing a move to Dortmund in 2017 having grown frustrated with his lack of progression into the first team set-up at the Etihad Stadium.
The 19-year-old has developed into one of the most exciting young talents in world football during his time in Germany as he’s become a key player at Dortmund having contributed 18 goals and 31 assists in his 71 appearances so far.
Sancho has also broken into the England set-up with 10 caps to his name and he’s expected to be an important part of Gareth Southgate’s plans heading into the European Championships next summer.
However, Sancho’s future at the Westfalonstadion has been cast in serious doubt following a turbulent few weeks that’s seen him fined £86,000 and axed for their game against Borussia Monchengladbach last month after returning home late from international duty.
The teenage winger was forced to train alone and was hauled off in the first half during Dortmund’s 4-0 defeat to Bayern Munich last weekend leading to harsh public criticism from manager Lucian Favre and sporting director Michael Zorc.
The Daily Mail says unsettled Sancho has now decided he wants to leave Dortmund and the situation has alerted a number of Europe’s top clubs with Liverpool the latest team to join the race for his signature.
The newspaper says the European Champions have joined Manchester United in expressing their firm interest in bringing Sancho back to England while the likes of Barcelona, PSG and Real Madrid are also showing a keen interest.
Liverpool already have one of the most feared attacks in world football so if Sancho arrived you’d expect one of Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane would have to leave to make room for him at Anfield.
Man Utd are still in a transition phase as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to build a side capable of challenging for top honours again and Sancho could be seen as a key part of the jigsaw at Old Trafford.
The Daily Mail suggests Dortmund value Sancho at around £100m and it looks like Liverpool and United will battle Europe’s most powerful clubs for his signature over the coming months.
