Blackjack is one of the most popular casino games. A quick overview of the game and how to beat the odds.

You wonder why you see every other person leaving with huge wins from the blackjack table and you are just there staring into space after each game? There is something you are not getting right that the others understand already. You are probably beating yourself up thinking you made a mistake. Yes, multiple actually. So, before you split your cards next time, look at the mistakes you should never make to ensure a smooth win.

Never Choose a Table You Are Not Comfortable With

No, don’t dilly-dally. Just walk away. At first, glance at the table. If you are not okay with the rules set by a blackjack table, simply pass. The possibility of losing all your money simply because the rules suck will be avoided. As a blackjack player, you should know that each table has its rules. It is left for you to decide if your skill set can match the rules and if you are okay playing there. If the rules are not in your favour, move on.

Never Play Blackjack Without First-hand Knowledge of Your Hand Signals

You think you have all it takes to win but do you know your hand signals? At the blackjack tables, hand signals are encouraged as this will prevent a clash of interest between you and the dealer. Acquainting yourself with various hand gestures used on the blackjack table will prove that you are a pro and not a pushover.

As a rule of thumb, here are some signals you should know.

Waving your hands across your cards: you do this, you are telling the dealer you are standing on your hand.

Tapping the table with a finger: this is what you do when you require another card.

Avoid Playing on A 6:5 Blackjack Table

The aim is to make maximum profit, no? So, why play where it will be at your loss but an advantage to the casino? It’s not wise. A table that pays at the rate of 6:5 is always a bad deal. It might not seem like much on the surface, but it always ends up in the casino getting triple the win.

Do Not Spit Your 10s

Not only your 10s, but never split your 5s, and 4s too, especially when they come in pairs. Do you think it’s no big deal? You can’t be more wrong. When you think your dealer has a bad hand, and you think you can afford to part with your 10, do not do it. This is because you stand a better chance of winning with your pair of 10s than just one. Your goal of reaching a 21 is nearer with a pair of 10 than a single one.

The same principle applies to your 5s and 4s. Parting your pairs leave you with a weak hand which you don’t want to have if winning is the goal.

Know When to Opt-out

Finally, here is one from our little blackjack handbook; know when to walk away. After a winning streak, don’t blindly continue gambling as blackjack is a game of luck. While you are still ahead, choose to walk away.
