With third place far from guaranteed, Arsenal will be reviewing their problems over the summer, and working out what areas need improving. A top quality, experienced goalkeeper may be on Arsene Wenger’s transfer wish-list, but it will not be Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus, as the Italian confirmed his position:
“Next year I will still be at Juventus.”
“I don’t think there is such a possibility of me going to Arsenal. My intentions and that of the club are to continue together.”
“It’s been a disappointing season, we missed too many opportunities. Now Europe is the minimum target and is a question of dignity.”
In his prime, Buffon was considered one of the best, if not the best goalkeeper in the world and in 2006 he was part of the Italian side who won the greatest honours a footballer can – the World Cup. He is a commanding and well respected goalkeeper who has won everything there is to win in Italy and may have been looking for a new challenge.
However he has now confirmed otherwise now, and if Arsenal were to look for a new goalkeeper, Buffon would not be the one.
