ARSENAL TRANSFER NEWS: Talented Playmaker Linked | Surprise Move Also Confirmed

By on June 21, 2011

There has been some interesting transfer rumors, gossip, news, speculation surrounding the Gunners in the last few days. Without further ado, here is the Arsenal Transfer News Roundup.

Arsenal Eyeing Up Jurado As Fabregas Replacement

Several media reports are suggesting that the Gunners are considering signing Schalke star Jurado, as a replacement for Fabregas. Jurado, signed last season for Schalke from Atletico Madrid for around 11 million pounds. The report states that Schalke are having debt problems and are looking to offload some players, and Jurado could be one of them.

In my opinion, Jurado is a young, talented player who has great technique and passing range, along with an excellent right foot. He might not be a bad replacement for Cesc Fabregas, but there are better options.

Arsenal Planning On Making a Bid For Barton

This is quite a shocker as several reports are suggesting that the Gunners are considering making a 1.5 million pound bid for Newcastle’s Joey Barton, who’s in the last year of his contract. Barton, who is notorious for his off-field problems and run-ins with the law, as well as his reckless challenges on the pitch. Ex Newcastle striker Micky Quinn told Talksport:

“I know through a third party that Arsenal have enquired about Joey Barton.

“What I’m gutted about as an ex-Newcastle player is that the spine of the team, the personality of the team is going to be gone.

“Why are they letting players like Joey Barton go if they have any ambition, but it’s only going to Arsenal’s gain.

“He’ll put a bit of steel into that Arsenal team, he goes forward, he was made captain, he’s grown up and he said himself that he’s making up for lost time for stupidity and injury, he wants to get to the top.

“I think Joey has settled down a lot now, we know he’s a bit of a hot-head, we know he’s paid on and off the pitch for his stupidity but he’s settled down.”

Barton had an excellent season with Newcastle, with some suggesting that he should be called up for England. I don’t doubt his ability, he is a good passer and an excellent set piece taker, but as an Arsenal fan and after what he did to Diaby last season and other incidents involving Arsenal players over the years (Nasri, Fabregas, etc.) I’m really not keen on seeing him as a Gunner and I doubt Wenger would go for him.

What do you think? Is Jurado a good replacement for Fabregas, if he leaves? Should the Gunners go for Barton? Please share your thoughts and opinions.

Cheers and take care,

Omar – www.o-posts.net

If we put all that we know and have learnt about AW over the years together we can instantly get a sense of whether a transfer rumour has any truth at all. He signs young, cheap, well behaved players or very old Arsenal old boys or cast off aging defenders…..

Err So? These “well behaved” players that Wenger bought, brought us close enough to win trophies. What did players like Joey barton do to Newcastle? Go to jail? Achieve lower mid table success?

Actually, the transfer window opened June 1 and Arsenal has an Asian tour in three weeks, then the Emirates Cup which is a final tune-up for the Prem and Champs League qualifier. So Wenger needs to start getting biz done, and soon. He’s the one who always talks about avoiding last-minute changes and disrupting the team.

That’s true, it’ll be better if the deals are concluded before pre-season. Wenger has stated and hinted that he would like to finish his transfer business before pre-season begins, and hopefully he will.

Wenger ll never sign any one i no him very well.

@Chiedozie – Wenger will never sign anyone? Wow looks like we won’t even be able to field a team in a couple of years… meanwhile in the real world, I think Barton’s a good buy for £1m. He’s likely to contribute more than Denilson did and he’s more reliable than Arshavin. He’s not going to win us the big games though and I can’t see AW buying him.

      June 22, 2011 at 1:12 am

Barton might be a shrewd signing, but honestly I’m not too keen on seeing him in a Gunners shirt…. I prefer an inconsistent Arshavin anytime of the day.

Enough of these speculation about Arsenal signing this or that player.Wenger should show more commitment by going into the transfer market and buy quality players to reenforce the team so that Arsenal can challenge for trophies next season

You’re not the only one that’s getting tired of the speculation, many are, hopefully Wenger signs some quality players like he promised.

It’s getting ridiculous. Quinn is literally the only person at all involved in the Barton rumour. Maybe it’s a cover up and Wenger offered him a contract? He’s a cheap, free agent, as far as I know. He’s not tall, but he’s got loads of Prem. experience. I heard there’s genuine interest in him at Arsenal. That’s from a reliable source, mind you.

    From the reserves.

Yeah, I think that Ramsey will be a big possibility to replace Fabregas. He has all the talent and ability to become a great player for the Gunners.
