Arsenal have been declared favourites to sign Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, according to Sky Sport 24. Buffon was linked to Arsenal last week after admitting he could leave the Old Lady after nine years, and England was his preferred destination. Now it seems the press have got the Italian stopper heading to London this summer.

Juventus have endured a terrible season with various managerial and presidential changes affecting the on-field performances. The result has been failure to qualify for the champions league, mainly due to their dreadful defensive record. Several clubs including Manchester United and Manchester City have also been linked with Buffon, but with Van Der Sar still going strong at United, and City missing out on champions league football, Arsenal must be in pole position from the England contenders.

As ever with Arsenal, price will prove to be the major stumbling block to any transfer. Buffon will command a large fee for sure and will want hefty wages as well. With a strict wage structure and frugal management, it still seems unlikely to me that Buffon will end up an Arsenal player. Don’t get me wrong, i would love it if he was our new No1 and wrote an article saying so, but i can’t see Wenger paying the kind of money it would take to sign a goalkeeper the wrong side of 30.

But the rumours are circulating and growing by the day, so you just never know. Perhaps any move for Buffon would include a swap with one of the Arsenal players Juventus have been linked with. Although Wenger is not likely to want to part company with Sagna, Fabregas or Van Persie. Maybe they would take Denilson and Bendtner? Worth a try.

To be honest, if there was a deal to swap buffon for sagna then its worth considering. imo eboue has had a better season than sagna this season, and it wouldn’t be too much of a problem. Plus, with a reliable goalie to command the defense they will perform better. Buffon or Frey for keeper!!

What about Nesta? If Campbell could play so strong how about Nesta.. He’s one of the best.

32 years old, that’s 7 years football. Wenger should wake up.

Buffon will be a great remedy for our goal keeping problems, but sagna should not go for buffon to come.

It would be amazing and a real sign of intent, but we simply have to admit that £20M for a 32 yr old keeper is not something that is ever likely to happen and I don’t think Juve will let him leave for anything less.

Frey, Akinfeev or Hart would all be cheaper! Plus Hart fits into the home-grown mould.

In order of preference: Hart, Frey, Akinfeev. buffon is tool old and too expensive.

not possible… we will still see almunia and fabianski next season.

Lets face it, we all know what wenger is made off. That stubborn old fool is not going to get another player, because it will destroy fabianski’s career Blah blah blah…

We will still see this 2 jokers next season. This is it. At most we will just see another CB to replace both Gallas and Silvestre given that DJ is back now. Maybe he will extend Campbell’s deal.

In defensive midfield, he will still stick with Denilson and Song. Because buying another player now would destroy Eastmond’s career.

Therefore, this season, we would only see Chamakh arrive on a free and that is all about it, with maybe another CB. Thats all!!!!!!

I would definitely love to see a new GK, 2 new CB, and 1 strong DM, but lets face it, it isnt going to happen with Wenger at the helm.

Lets see what happens give Arsen a chance to sort it out, maybe he is a bit blinkered but i think he knows he has to buy otherwise we will be in the same boat next season.A good manager like wenger dont go bad over night ,have faith c what happens ,us Gooners must close ranks.

Hi is totally good for Arsenal. Arsenal will have first and second keeper from Italy (Buffon and Mannone). And I dont care about third keeper wheather Almunia or Fabianski because they are from the same DNA. Mannone will be good bait to attract Buffon because he is Italian and will teach Buffon how to speak English and suit his life style in London. In the same time Buffon can teach Mannone how to become a good goalkeepeer. But with Arsenal already targeting Melo who is also from Juventus, I afraid that Juventus will ask for Van Persie to trade with Buffon and Melo.

We need new players, even Wenger can see that, hopefully the frugal management will open the bank vault.

    GK:

Hugo LLoris would be better than Buffon or Joe Hart

    Def:

Jerome Boateng but he’s prob going to Man City

    Mid:

Yaya Toure is being touted again along with Arteta and Nzogbia

    Forward:

    Rodallega

Chamakh is to be an Arsenal player but hopefully Wengers got one more player up his sleeve.
