Continental giants eyeing United star
By Ross Mackiewicz.
According to reports Manchester United left back Patrice Evra may be prised away from Old Trafford this summer with Real Madrid and Inter Milan being touted as his possible suitors. The Frenchman revealed earlier this week how he feels responsible for The Red Devils collapse this season in their title hunt as they relinquished their Premier League crown to Chelsea.
He joined Manchester United in January 2006 from AS Monaco for £7m. After struggling to adapt to the English game in the early days of his United career he has fully established himself as one of the clubs most important players and is now regarded as one of the world’s best in his position.
Despite his disappointment in the league and Champions league, the left back is pleased to have captained the club to League Cup triumph over Aston Villa back in February and is delighted with his fitness and form.
Evra said: “I’m pleased and very proud (to have played 51 games) because you can easily have an injury.”
“I was in good form and my team-mates, the gaffer and everyone have congratulated me for my season.”
“It was not only about playing the games but performing for the 51 games.”
“I’m also proud to have lifted the only trophy we won this season, the League Cup, when I was captain.”
The 28 year old only has two years left on his £80,000 a week contract and Sir Alex Ferguson may be tempted to cash in on him now to make a significant profit.
Do you think Evra will still be at Old Trafford? Are there any potential replacements for him? Let us know.
