International Break Strikes Again As Liverpool Star Picks Up Injury
I’m sorry. I simply hate International breaks. Martin Kelly’s injury sustained following the England U21′s victory over Iceland frustrates me further.
Here we have a very talented player in Martin Kelly whom has so much potential despite having a very stop-start career so far. I just don’t understand why Stuart Pearce would want to play him for the full 90 minutes given the fact that he has just returned from injury.
It would be better if a player is eased back into the team. I personally commend Fabio Capello for giving Steven Gerrard time to recuperate following his long-term layoff thanks to his troublesome groin injury. The fact that Liverpool are playing Manchester United next week simply stresses the importance that we can’t have too many of our key players injured out there during International week.
Martin Kelly should have been given a 60 minute max out there. For all you guys who don’t know, he suffered a groin injury after playing 90 minutes, with the effects wearing on afterwards.
But on the bright side, Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson’s time off International Duty has meant that both of them should be (almost) fully fit for the Manchester United clash in a week’s time.
