Wenger Hits Back At Bergkamp Criticism

By on October 15, 2011

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has denied claims by club legend Dennis Bergkamp that captain Robin van Persie is best served playing behind the striker.

Bergkamp said earlier this week that his fellow countryman should not be deployed as lone striker but given a free role behind the front man. However, Wenger was quick to defend the positioning of van Persie, stating his goal record speak for its self.

“Robin’s best position is on the football pitch,” Wenger told reporters.

“On the right, on the left, up front, behind the striker, he can play everywhere. It’s as simple as that.

“He is most suited to the team and adapted [and] adjusted to the quality of the other players. In this position he has scored 26 goals in 32 games so you cannot say he is in a bad position because the numbers go against you.

“But you have to be open-minded. He can play as well behind the striker, on the right and on the left.

“When I bought him he played on the left wing. At Feyenoord he has been educated like that. I put him central, because he is a quality player.”

Arsene hates any one criticising him hence his soon to be announced demise or fall from grace!

I agree, Wenger hates criticism and he is sturbborn. That is just the reason Arsenal is where it is now. Bergkamp is right as we all know but instead of Wenger objectively looking at the criticism, he tries to justify and defend his ways. The goals he said Van Persie scored was mainly last season when there was Fab, Nasri and Wilshire to make the killer passes. They are not there not and where are the goals?

So long as we continue with the current formation, we will not threaten upfront and we will end badly. I’m sorry to say but Wenger is the problem and cause of Arsenal’s current situation.

Bet me Ramsey will start again tommorrow and Park will be on the bench. Why bid for strikers when you have only one slot for them to play.

Teams easily know our line up n approach ti games and the fear factor that Arsenal oozes is gone.

In Wenger we will rust unless he changes

I have to agree with Akex Chukwurah’s observation. VAN persie could score that many goals because of the excellent service and support from Cesc and Nasri. Dennis Bergkamp’s comment was in reference to Arsenal’s present lack of an excellent provider(due respect to Arteta). This situation has forced Van Persie to fall back and support the central midfield. Thats exactly the reason why Dennis said what he said about VPersie. But Arsene being Arsene, he always feels threatened anytime a criticism comes his way and he feels obliged to put on his defensive shield. For tomorrow’s game I am with you guys out there for Wenger to put on his best eleven based on merit and performance not on seniority or predilection. Just my thought.

What is wrong in wenger explaining the reason behind his decisions with RVP? How does it amount to hatred? Statistics shows the player has done well in that position and as far as that, wenger is right.

Arguing with the stats! Its a simple issue of facts. Everyone, including former players, is entitled to their opinion, but still AW is fully backed by the stats.

give the man a brake i would love to see the formation changed aswell just to see that fear factor again but wenger is a legend for us we would be a lot worse off if we didnt have him in charge hes done amazing in charge for us he hasn`t wone anyhting in a while but the league has changed a lot in the years since we won the league his record stands for its self he loves arsenal and if you do to you should support the man and stop giving him more headaches.
