Liverpool are monitoring Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender and are preparing a January bid, according to reports in Germany.
The Reds have sent Director of Football, Damien Comolli, to watch the German ace on several occasions and he has now reported back to Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish recommending they step up their interest in signing him.
The 22-year-old moved to Leverkusen three years ago from 1860 Munich and has established himself as a first team regular and has recently forced his way into the German national team.
Bender is contracted until 2014 and Dalglish is ready to test Bayern’s resolve with a £12m January bid, however he may be persuaded to wait until next summer so he can off-load Alberto Aquilani, who is expected to leave Anfield following a disappointing stint on Merseyside.
