The long-serving United boss will face stiff competition from Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho and Barcelona’s Pep Guardiola, who is favourite to win the award after guiding Barcelona to the La Liga title as well as re-claiming the Champions League. Fergie won the Premier league as well as reaching the Champions League final in 2011, but lost out to Barca 3-1.
Wayne Rooney misses out on the Ballon D’Or after Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Xavi were the three short listed for the award.
