Man Utd Transfer News
United’s South American Swoop
By Ryan Kane.
So it’s that time of the year again. Mid-Summer, and for a club like Manchester United, it’s a period in which they seem to be linked with virtually every player out there. The World Cup enters its latter stages with not so much as one remaining United player left in the tournament. Rooney,Park and new boy Javier Hernandez have all seen their World Cup dreams crushed in the last week as their respective nations were dumped from the competition.
The relishing side of any summer for a United fan is the transfer market. Currently in full swing, ripe with speculation. As always the internet is flooded with transfer rumours linking hundreds of players to Old Trafford. It seems with every individual that shines on the world circuit, either at club level last season or for their country in South Africa, they will find themselves in the middle of a transfer anecdote.
For the Red Devils, two players seem to top the list of potential signings every time – Sanchez and Fabiano. These South American stars, who met in last night’s World Cup clash between Brazil and Chile, are said to be prime targets for Sir Alex.
Alexis Sanchez who applies his trade at Italian side Udinese has had an impressive World Cup campaign, holding an instrumental role in Chile’s success to date. The 21-year old winger is said to have a price tag in the region of £30 million. Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano has also been in remarkable form for his country. A splendid goal against the Ivory Coast last week and a well taken effort against Chile yesterday have been the highlight’s of his campaign thus far.
United have also been linked with Inter Milan veteran Esteban Cambiasso. It is believed new manger Rafa Benitez is looking to sell the 29-year-old midfielder having already targeted Liverpool’s Javier Masherano as a replacement. Cambiasso would bring a wealth of experience to Old Trafford, with the Argentine set to fill the void of the aging Paul Scholes who will retire at the end of next term.
Many more names have, and will continue to be linked to United in the following months as the mystery of the transfer market unfolds. Who, if anyone, will join Javier Hernandez in the summer arrivals lounge at Old Trafford? As always it will be Sir Alex Ferguson who will have the final say.
The Red Devil’s kick off their 2010/11 season as they welcome newly promoted Newcastle United to Old Trafford before a tricky clash away to Europa League finalists Fulham on August 21st.
