Jack Wilshere To Miss Season After Scans Reveal Stress Fracture
The Daily Mail are reporting that Jack Wilshere is set to miss the rest of the season after scans showed he has suffered another stress fracture to the same ankle
Morning Gooners. If the lack of activity in the transfer window wasn’t bad enough, we’ve woken up to some gut-wrenching injury news with the Daily Mail reporting that Jack Wilshere is set to miss the rest of the season.
Our boy-wonder broke down in training last week after feeling pain in his ankle and was sent for scans and to see a specialist. Arsene Wenger told Arsenal.com over the weekend that the initial news looked promising and the injury may not be as serious as first thought.
However, the Mail’s report today claims that Wilshere’s latest set back is in fact worse than first feared and scans have revealed that the 20-year-old has suffered another stress fracture to the same ankle.
If accurate, this is of course a huge blow to Arsenal but you have to question the timing of the news. Only hours after the transfer window closes and we find out a key player is out for the season? Call me cynical, but that’s more than just coincidental.
Wilshere suffered the setback in training a week ago, does it really take six or seven days to have scans and discover the extend of the injury? No, three days max. So Arsene Wenger would have known about this for days but chose not to disclose the information as he knew pressure would be on him to buy a replacement.
Now the window has closed, he can simply chalk it off to bad luck and bad timing, as he did with the Vermaelen situation last January.
The flip-side of the argument is; would Arsene Wenger really leave himself open to such ridicule after declaring only days ago that the news was positive, only for us to now find out Wilshere’s out for the season? But does Arsene really care? I’m not sure.
Obviously I’m hoping the Wilshere news is a load of rubbish, but we all know what Arsenal’s luck is like with injuries. I have a horrible feeling we won’t be seeing Jack at all this season. At least we have £50m in the bank though, eh?!
