[Player Ratings] Arsenal 7-1 Blackburn: This Result Has Been Coming….

By on February 4, 2012

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain

Arsenal 7-1 Blackburn. This kind of result has been on the cards for months. I wrote a post the other day about Arsenal being able to create plenty of chances but just needed to start sticking them away, maybe the players read it?

The key was getting an early goal and putting our chances away. We had 16 shots at goal today and scored seven goals. We had 13 shots at goal against Bolton, yet scored none. We always create opportunities, it’s taking them that’s been the issue. Hopefully today will give some players that extra confidence in front of goal.

Yes, it ‘was only Blackburn’ as some Arsenal fans have been saying, it’s not time to get too carried away and we only really started to pick them apart when Givet was sent off, but let’s not pick holes in what was a great team performance and an important moral boosting win.

The whole team was outstanding, of course Van Persie may grab the headlines for the hat-trick but for me the front three were all unplayable. Chamberlain deserves all the praise in the world for his display. He bagged his first two Premier League goals and the finishes were deadly. This lad is going to be a real star. He’s very different to Theo at 18. When Theo came on the scene we were excited because he was so quick. But with Chamberlain, he’s got the pace but it’s his all-round play that stands out. He can dribble, his passing is good, he tracks back to help out the defence, he can finish….he’s got the lot.

Walcott was also superb. Much better than in recent weeks. Two great assists for van Persie  and a superb run to set up Chamberlain but the key was that his team mates were finally playing the ball in behind the defenders in to space for Theo to run in to, and not playing it to his feet. Theo likes to make runs in behind, not have it to feet and then have to think about what to do with the ball.

Arteta pulled the strings in midfield and took his goal well, thats 5 goals in 20 games for Mikel in the league this season. 1 in 4 is a very reasonable return for a midfield player. Henry’s late goal was the perfect way to round off the afternoon. The deflection was a little fortunate but who would begrudge the great man a slice of luck?

So three points in the bag and now just two points off fourth place. I think it’s safe to say we’ll all be cheering on United this Sunday and hopefully they can beat Chelsea at the Bridge. I’m never going to hope for a Spurs victory, so i’ll take a draw at Anfield! Then it’s game on. Here are my ratings from today.

Player Ratings

Szczesny – 6 – Got a hand to the Pedersen free-kick and although it was a stunning strike, the Pole may feel he could have done better. Hardly touched the ball apart from that.

Coquelin – 7.5 – Superb at right back. I think we’ve found our back up for Sagna. Full of running, always supporting Theo in attack, nice assist for Van Persie’s third and overall a very promising performance.

Mertesacker – 7 – Comfortable afternoon for the big man. Won’t have many easier days in the Premier League as Blackburn offered nothing in attack, especially once they were down to 10-men.

Koscielny – 7 – See above, but the only other thing to note was the silly foul he gave away that lead to Blackburn’s goal.

Vermaelen – 7 – Got forward on occasion and unlucky not to score when he hit the post.

Song – 8 – Much better from Song. Showed off his passing range with some lovely through-balls and general play was terrific. Hugely improved from recent displays.

Arteta – 8.5 – Excellent from the Spaniard. Ran the show with Song in the middle. Pass completion rate of 94% and took his goal very well. Really missed him in recent weeks.

Rosicky – 7 – Looked more dangerous than Ramsey in the ‘play maker’ role but still lacked that final product. Tidy passing but over-shadowed by his team mates.

Walcott – 9 – Finally the Arsenal players put the ball in to space for Theo to get on to, instead of playing it to his feet!! A terrific display from Theo. Two great assists for Van Persie, and another for Chamberlain. A far more intelligent performance. More of the same please!

Chamberlain – 9.5 – Stunning performance. Dribbling was superb, two composed finishes, bags of energy and does his fair share of tracking back. This kid is the real deal.

Van Persie – 10 – Another devastating display. All three goals were almost carbon-copies of each other, but the third in particular was a great finish. Superb pass for Chamberlains first and also set up Henry. 3 goals, 2 assists. Simply unplayable.

SUBS:

Henry – 7 – The King got his first Premier League goal in 5 years. It was a little lucky, as it deflected off the defender, but who cares! Great way to round off the perfect afternoon.

Sagna – 6 – Slotted in at left back for the last 20 minutes and did what was required to see the game out. Great to have him back.

Benayoun – 6 – Unlucky with a neat half-volley that went straight at Robinson. Not on for long.

EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE – PLEASE DO NOT GET CARRIED AWAY. WALCOTT WAS OK, BUT DOES NOT DESERVE 9 – BESIDES THE 2 ASSIST HE WAS OK. ROSICKY WAS BETTER AND A MUCH BETTER THAN RAMSEY IN THAT ROLE

B Johnson, Ramsey has not been the best in past weeks he is only21 and being played week in week out has probably had an effect on him, I do believe he is a great talent give him more time saying that rosicky played well

the diff between rosicky and ramsay is the ability to win the ball back and quick passing.. ramsay has more work rate than rosicky but he hardly wins the ball back for the team also he takes very long to release the ball.
ramsay will become better than rosicky but he needs to improve this aspect of his game before starting regularly for a team like arsenal.

Realy .you think the players are listening to fans?
Typical of a football fan.Thinking they are somehow “the reason” something does or will happen.
They played well because they did and the manager allows them to express themselves. Not because they listened to pea brained fans.

pedantic george, if thats the type of contribution you make to a thread the just shut up and leave, no one wants to hear aggressive, unprovoked rubbish from some one who clearly knows nothing about football, fans have a massive impact on a team, hence why teams play better at home, doesnt tak a genius to work that out, so take you ignorance somewhere else, thanks

The difference between Wdnesday and today was the speed of our passing. Against Bolton, we almost walked around on the pitch. I know RvP did hit both the upright and the bar once and the comments would be very different had he put one of those away.
Coquelin is a superb squad player. A player like him is extremely valuable in a team . He should be a sub even when everybody is back because he can slot in across both the midfield and defence – much like Flamini. Is this the strongest line-up wh have now when everyone is fit and available?
    Szczesny
    Sagna, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Santos
    Song, Arteta
    Wilshere
    Oxlade-Chamberlain, van Persie, Gervinho

    to be fair
    henry was shocking
when he come on all the team played to get him a goal, we could of had a 10-1 score line if the team didnt all play to get henry to score of the last 20 mins.
but henry legand done well to get the ball and finishe it.

    v perise, walcott and chamberlin
    looked unstoppable.
    that front 3 is great

it was good to see people playing the ball infront of walcott so he could run on to and attack

    alex no words
he has everything, speed, can walk past people his got the skills
he can pick a long pass
    and he can score.

Yeah this result has been forthcoming. The next opponent Sunderland won’t be so porous. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised O Neill beats us.
MO likes to play anti soccer and will have players hounding the gunners. Time and space would be at a premium.
Thr thing is the gunners have to be focussed and play at mo at his own game.

I think you’ve underestimated Coquelin’s contribution, he interchanged with Walcott and gave him a platform to contribute to the game. He was great going forward too. I think he and Ox-Cha were exceptional. Van the man will steal the headlines for their good work. Our former legend was a passenger again, a shadow of the man we once knew but who wasn’t willing him to score? Blackburn it has to be said were very, very poor even before down to 10 men.

  16. mark

    February 5, 2012 at 4:39 am

yes its no coincidence that we’re starting to look like a lot more of a dangerous team since we have a player who can legitimately beat players on the wing, and break the game open.
    Miyaichi to come 😀
The arsenal supporters who dont support unconditionally are not helping. we need this squad to stay together, and Arsene Wenger. support them.

    February 5, 2012 at 4:42 am

Yeah! This result and perfornance has been long time coming.
I think the switch in tactics with real speedy and skilful wingers is the key. In recent years, the opposition had learnt to play Arsenal, particularly after the Invincibles Era. We had smaller players and playing thru the middle became difficult. The opposition just crowd the central area and the smaller players are forced to play tippytappy, unable to find the gap. Now, with wingers the defence become stretched and hopefully, we become unplyable again. I think if we get another skillful and creative modfielder, like Hazard or Groetze, the team will be complete. Yesterday game, we could even have a hatrick of own goals!

  18. Montlenyane

    February 5, 2012 at 5:55 am

Ya, we played well, ths line up need tobe given the next games as it is, no changes, the problem may come if we try to rotate..ie, taking rosicky out for ramsey(wasteful), alex for gervinho(poor final ball, selfish)/arshavin(brainless,lost,wasteful)…no team will ever face off this first eleven!

Bring barca,ac milan, man u, or madrid, we will wipe em off..! looking forward for the next game…

@Steve, mr/miss, whatevr gender u maybe, u must undrstand that wenger is the manager nd he is being controled by Gazizi, Hillwood nd Keroeke. he alwys says that buy me that nd that only tobe dissapointed by the board, remember Wenger is not aggressive like mourihno nd a host of managers, he tries to hide internal affairs hence saving the team frm politics…now everybody has to know a differnc btwn a fan nd a supporter nd to my opinion u are a fan!!!

  19. Montlenyane

    February 5, 2012 at 6:01 am

get Hazard/Gotze, M’villa, Vertogen nd Podolski.

We have lacke wingers since pires, ljumberg nd reyes went out, now with Alex we got that kind of wing who is able to dribble, score, pass, nd track back, it was evident that RVP did have a compliment ystrday…get a M’villa, Vertogen, Hazard/Gotze, nd Podolski please.

I will be convinced the gunners are on the way to fourth if they beat MC/Chelsea/Spurs/Pool or get nine points from these fixtures. These are the games that will show if the gunners have the quality . If not .it’s back to square one.

I still believe the GG ie german guy ,is an accident waiting to happen. He has been lucky to have verminator to help him. For me he is ponderous and against pool, they could use Carrol to target him .

Fan should forget this idea of us bring in Hazard- we dont need him- we need someone who’ll work his skins off for this team and Hazard isn’t that type of player. Beside i think we need a creative midfielder more than a winger. Someone to take some load off Wilshere n Ramsey, someone who is versatile enough to play in tthe middle as well as on the wings.
We need Goetze more than Hazard. Goetze has the workaholic(wilshere’s) attitude, plus age(he’ll b counted as under 21), plus Versatility, plus skillz and pace, and he his presently the best in his age grade.
So we need to get Goetze(at all cost) as we MUST sell off DIABY, ARSHAVIN, ROSICKY(yes) cause non of them is creative enough. With that we will have Goetze, Wilshere or Ramsey in creative midfield, unlike whats obtained now.
This summer WENGER(pls I’m on my knees) must buy
Goetze (at all cost) and Demba Ba that shouldnt be up to #50.

Bring back Vela- this kid should be given a chance to fight for a shirt, Allow Afobe and Sanchez more playin time.
We are well stock in midfield atleast Coquelin and Frimpong has shown us were dont need any more DM’s. So all we need in that midfield is an exceptional touch in creative and Goetze stands out like a Sun.
Gervinho(must start finishin more), Walcott ( must start thinkin more), Chamberlain (wat can i say) n Ryo(He definately come bak equipped) we wont need any more wingers, beside if we do get Goetze he can also play wings if need be. So

    In
    Goetze £30
    Demba Ba £10

    out
    Arshavin 6m
    Diaby 6m
    Rosicky free
    Chamakh 7m
    Squillacci 2m
    Almunia free
    Bendtner 8m
    Denilson 3m
    —————-
total 32m(minus their big chunks of wages)

I disagree with your comment, Pmjgunz7. I don’t understand your reasoning for your comment comparing player’s skills. I believe, Rosicky is a less-appreciated world class player and in my book I would select him even before Farbergas or Nasri, thanks to Wenger he drained his confidence and stamina by sitting him on the bench for over 3 seasons. A player at his caliber should never be on the bench, he is a leader, creative genius. Next time he is on the pitch, try to see the quality of his game. How dare you compare him with Ramsey? Don’t get me wrong, I like Ramsey but he is a young growing player learning his way up the ladder, the reason Wenger play him more often might be for business reason not for his superior skill.
Another player you mentioned was Diaby, once again you made a big error in your judgment. Diaby is another excellent playmaker Arsenal has in its squad. The guy is a gifted dribbler with a desire to attack the opponent’s goal. I am glad that he recovered fully from his injuries and I can’t wait to see him on the pitch.
Arshavin is a skillful guy but he showed no desire to run and to fully engage himself in the game.
When it comes to acquiring new players, I don’t think we need anyone of the names you mentioned. These players are highly priced and there is no guarantee they will stay with the club or move to a higher bidder. What Arsenal desperately needs right now is a hungry striker, like Defoue, Podolsky, or Clint Dempsey.

Just hope the season will soon be over regardless of whether the gunners get the cl berth. If not, let’s hope the gunners can fight fot the epl whether Hhe Fm stays or is not around.
Read that the red feced/nosed is adamant no one is going to drive him of his perch. All good things must come to an end.As noted he is lord of the epl manor.
He would very musch like to be Duke of CL Duchy. Fortunately he was kicked out.
It aint easy for him to carry over his domination to the cl. There are many good teams and refs aint afraid of him.
Yeah i know his record is second to none but his arrogance and condescending manner makes him nausesting. Until he learns to be humble and treat other teams and managers with respect,he will be hated by many neutral fans.
