Chelsea are set to rival Manchester United for the signing of Benfica ace Javi Garcia, according to the Daily Mail.
The report claims that the Blues sent scouts to watch Benfica’s match with Maritimo on Saturday to run-the-rule over Javi Garcia as well as striker Nelsen Oliveira.
The Mail suggests that Sir Alex Ferguson is a keen admirer of the versatile Garcia, who can play at centre back although he is more comfortable in central midfield, but United will now face competition from Chelsea who are also monitoring the 25-year-old. It’s believed the pair are willing to part with around £17m for the Spaniard, but Benfica are said to value him at close to £25m.
The Londoners are also keeping tabs on 20-year-old Oliveira, who shot to fame after netting four goals at last years under 20 World Cup, but Barcelona also had scouts in the stands to watch the Portuguese international.
