Arsenal have been told they have until the end of the week to decide whether to sign Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun on a permanent basis, according to the Metro.

Benayoun joined the Gunners on loan last summer and has enjoyed a successful 12 months at the Emirates, scoring six goals in 25 appearances.

The 32-year-old was a key player in Arsenal’s late push to secure third place and automatic champions league qualification, as he started the last three games and scored two vital goals agains Norwich and West Brom.

Despite becoming something of a fan favourite at the Emirates, the Metro claim that Arsene Wenger is still undecided whether to make his move permanent. Chelsea have made it clear the Israeli can leave this summer and the report suggests a fee as low as £1m will be enough to land the versatile midfielder, and they have told Arsenal to make a final decision by the end of the week.

It’s understood that Benayoun would be keen to remain in North London but would demand a 2-year contract, something Wenger is unlikely to offer due to the players age, and Ajax, West Ham and Maccabi Haifa are all monitoring the players situation.

If Benayoun is the level we are reaching, when Man U are looking at buying Eden Hazard, then the truth is out the bag. we are ‘bit players’ in an ‘also rans’ world. every Arsenal fan is waiting to hear about the big names we are signing. Silence is what we hear. Wenger is waiting for FFP to bite so he can say “I told you so”. He is an Egomaniac. Our team are also rans.

Others have said it all, but I will re-iterate that if Benyoun is the standard that Wenger is considering for next season then we might as well not waste our moey going to watch our team struggle in another season of torture! The signs are not good when we can only sign players like Podolski who is 2nd grade standard…. he couldn’t get in the Bayern Munich side and went to be a star at …wait for it Shalke!!! And exactly how many other top clubs fought us to get him to sign with them errrr exactly zero, none, that surely says it all doesn’t it??

Wenger needs to buy him and other formidable players to make Arsenal a scintilating club in the coming season. Slow is dangerous!

Definitely worth buying. We wouldn’t even be in the Europa Cup now had he not been playing last season.

He’s like the Captain we need and he scores goals without messing about with all that pinball rubbish we have to keep enduring around the box. The guy shoot, he scores, he does what is needed. He is fit as hell too for his age.

Yossi is a good player. He ressurected us with his sharpness. Ask Fulop if you are doubting. We can even buy drogba. RVP should also realise that had it not been for his injuries, arsenal could have won something. leaving arsenal will actually be cursing himself. anyone who has read this should advise rvp and that is why we had to wish him well during his difficult times. arsenal loves rvp and its like for better for worse but rvp wants to leave wen thngs are worse for the gunners. a one sided for better for worse.

I would keep Yossi but only if he was happy to play a small part in our season. If he wants to play week in week out let him go elsewhere as he will not get the playing time with us.
He was a fantastic player for us esp considering he’s actually owned by Chavs. I think he deserves to go and play regular football if thats what he wants.

I would keep Yossi, but buy a quality creative/attacking midfielder,He is one player who wont question or disrupt the harmony due to always coming off the bench or being subbed… also having not played at all last season but one, i believe he was just finding his fit again this season… he will be more settled next season. Keep him wenger.

Wow, we have an international midfielder to sit on the bench and provide depth for a number of campaigns and that is not good enough? For a $1m fee that’s brilliant. Let’s take the pressure of Ramsey and give the others some leadership. A world class DM with some balls (some might say Frimpong in 2 years) will make all the difference. The only way we fell short this year was giving up cheap possession and having no cover. Benayoun saved us on numerous occasions.

@kevin, podolski’s second grade??? U sure don’t know what you’re saying. U should demand for more signings like that. He has been a German international since he was 19
