Nigel De Jong Lined Up As Yann M’Vila Talks Stall

Arsenal are lining up a move for Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong after talks with Rennes over No.1 target Yann M’Vila stalled, according to a reports

With the summer transfer window set to open, we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news involving Arsenal. Today the Gunners are linked with a move for Man City’s Nigel de Jong.

Nigel De-Jong

Arsenal are lining up a move for Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong after talks over No.1 target Yann M’Vila stalled, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

The Gunners have been tracking M’Vila for over a year now and were thought to be close to securing a deal for the French enforcer. However, the Mail claim that talks with Rennes have stalled with the two clubs unable to agree a transfer fee. This has lead to Wenger looking for alternatives and has identified De Jong as a potential target.

The Dutchman struggled to hold down a first team place at City last season and only made 11 starts for the Premier League champions, and Wenger is hoping he can lure him to the Emirates to boost his chances of playing on a more regular basis.

FT Verdict

I have always been a huge fan of De Jong’s and would love to see him at Arsenal. His aggressive attitude and desire to hunt down the ball would make him an excellent shield in front of the Gunners back line.

But i’m not sure we should read too much into this rumour. Not only is the Daily Mail’s story lacking in any real substance, but even if it was true de Jong will be on ridiculous wages at City, the kind of wages Arsenal won’t be able to match, so i just can’t see this one happening.

However, no doubt the 27-year-old Dutchman would like to be playing more first team football and if Wenger is willing to give him it, you never know, he may be willing to take a pay cut and we might just see him in the Red & White next year.

To be honest I`d never heard of him but then again I don`t take much interest in Manchester City. Let`s go for Anzhi Makhachkala`s Uzbekistani`s Odil Ahmedov instead, I`ve never heard of him either, but he`s sure to be cheaper.

Season ticket renewal approaching.. they do this every year, leak stories to the press to make us part with our hard earned cash….and then they end up signing Uzbekistan players…great

If you’re so cynical, why renew your season ticket?

We’ve already signed Podolski, and I think more signings of this calibre will follow.

Yah Boob…..they target losers like you (they being the global AFC conspiracy to steal your hard earned money)by spreading false rumours about signing superstars like DeJong (who most people haven’t heard of) and then just when you’ve bought your season tickets…they say Boob has renewed, NOW we can sign that Uzbekistani! This all makes sense now…by the way do you know who really killed JFK?
