Man Utd Transfer News: Fergie Targets £14m Dutchman
Manchester United are weighing up a move for £14m-rated PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman, due to increasing concerns over the fitness of Darren Fletcher
The summer transfer window is open and Football Talk will bring you all the latest Man Utd transfer news. Today, United are linked with a move for a Dutch midfielder.
Manchester United are set to move for £14m-rated Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman due to increasing concerns over the fitness of Darren Fletcher, according to the Mirror.
Fletcher is currently taking an extended break away from football due to a bowel condition that ended his season in November, and no date has been set over his return.
Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to be hopeful the Scotland international will still make a full recovery but with no guarantees over his long-term fitness, the United boss is eying potential replacements.
The Mirror report that Fergie has been tracking Strootman for some time and has been impressed with the PSV Eindhoven midfielders combative style of play in the middle of the park.
Strootman is currently away with the Dutch national squad at the Euro’s but is facing an uncertain future at PSV after Mark van Bommel sealed a return to the club, and is likely to take the 22-year-old’s place in the starting eleven next season.
Ferguson is hoping to take advantage of this situation as he looks to add a physical presence to his midfield this summer. The player’s agent has said his clients future won’t be discussed until after the Euro’s but it’s believed Strootman would be open to a switch to the Premier League.
