Wilshere Contacts Police Over Failed Drugs Test Claims

Arsenal & England midfielder Jack Wilshere has been forced to close his Twitter account and contact police after Twitter trolls claimed he’d failed a drugs test

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been forced to close his Twitter account and contact police after Twitter trolls claimed he had failed a drugs test.

Wilshere missed the entire 2011/12 season with an ankle injury that he picked up in pre-season last August. He was initially ruled out for 3-4 months but a set back in the new year meant further surgery which ended his season, and with it, ended any hopes of representing England at this summer European championships.

However, outrageous accusations were aimed at the 20-year-old last week when Tweets from two Twitter accounts claimed he had failed a drugs test and the rumours spread over the internet. What had Wilshere apparently been taking? Was it some cough medicine? Perhaps some super-strength fat loss products? Nope, they claimed he had tested positive for cocaine!

A wave of abusive messages flooded in to Wilshere and his girlfriend Lauren Neal forcing them to close their Twitter accounts and according to the Sun, the midfielder has now contacted the police and saved the Tweets as evidence.

A friend of Wilshere told the Sun:

“Someone is spreading hateful lies and he and Lauren have decided enough is enough.

“Most of the abuse was the kind of stuff he hears on the terraces. But it has got more personal.

“The stuff about the drug test was the final straw — he would never take drugs.”

“It’s upsetting that someone can be so vile.”

Arsenal lawyers have also been made aware of the incident and they said:

“The rumoured reason on social networks behind Jack’s absence this past season is entirely fabricated and false.”

It’s disgusting that a young footballer could potentially have his reputation tarnished by some idiot’s on a social network who have nothing better to do than spread lies on the internet.

It’s just another example of people thinking they can say what they like on the net without repercussions. Hopefully the police can track down the trolls and take appropriate action against them.

Difficult one, part of me hopes the cnuts get done good an proper. On the other hand, what are football players doing on twitter in the first place, of course they are getting abuse and/or rumours spread about them. Do we really want the police to spend time and public money on this?

Jack is clean , that’s all i know. When a mass of people love you , at all costs few heads will try to bring down. That’s something reality offers and there’s hardly anything you can do to change that other than staying strong , believe in yourself and stand firmly on your principles.

Anyone who uses Twitter should really get a life. Hope Whilshire sees the light and realises that Twitter is just a domain for numb skulls with no life!

The best thing to come of this is Wilshire shutting down his twitter account. I’m not opposed to footballers using twitter. But it did seem he got carried away with it for awhile.

Another Gunner who should shut down his twitter account is Frimpong. Robin van Persie on the other hand uses Twitter well. First of all he uses it sparingly. Second, his tweets are always professional in tone and subject matter, with a smattering of family specific tweets here and there.

I guess it’s a matter of maturity. If you are in your late teens or early 20s, you should probably just focus on your football.

I heard this rumour before jacks ” second injury ” midseason and I dissmissed it outright. I thought he’d be back last season but before his rehabilitation was complete my mate told me this story and told me in no uncertain terms that we’d not see jack in an arsenal kit this season, and arsenal did cover up rosickys drug habit a couple of years back so I for think there is some truth behind this story

Okay, Conor, give us your evidence of Rosicky’s drug habit. You better come up with something really good otherwise we might think you’re a bit of a lowlife scumbag. You are aware your accusations are libellous?

Why so harsh? You could simply have asked him to rephrase in clear English. No need whatever to add “you illiterate imbecile”. Very poor.

Having seen other twitter abusers identified and dealt with recently be very interested to see if charges or lawsuits are directed at the person(s) making the claim. Lack of any action I’m afraid will be damning given a. Implications to both brands of arsenal and wilshire and b. resources available to pursue action…
