Henry targets Arsenal return – after retirement
By Basil James.
Thierry Henry, the Arsenal legend has stated that he would like to come back to the Grove after he retires from competitive football. He joined the New York Red Bulls in the MLS, becoming one of the increasing number of European stars to move Stateside. Henry has said the he has decided to work for Arsenal after he hangs up his boots (and gloves) after a stint in North America. The man who found the back of the net a whopping 226 times for the Gunners said “When I retire, I don’t know how, I want to come back to Arsenal”.
Meanwhile, Henry also advised current Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas to resist the lure of Barcelona and stay with the club that has made him what he is today. “It is hard because the guy is from Barcelona. I wouldn’t like to be in his shoes, that is all I can say”, said the 32 year old. Henry accepts that the decision Fab has to make is extremely difficult. The World Cup probably came at the wrong time for Arsenal, as Fabregas spent a lot of time with his friends from Barcelona who make up a significant portion of the Spanish squad. Henry said
“I don’t know what to say about this, because I don’t want to talk for him, but as an Arsenal fan, for me, I want him to stay, but I would also understand if he goes back home”.
Henry said that he was on the look out for new challenges and a new, refreshing scene.
“I have just come to New York to play and to compete and win another title”, says the Frenchman.
Henry professed his love for Arsenal and the football the club plays and said that nothing would please him more than a return to the club at which he had his best time. “After everything is done then I will think about it. But whatever it is, I want to come back to Arsenal – maybe as a water boy – I just love this club” were the words of the Arsenal great.
Maybe Henry would return in the capacity of a coaching staff or as a scout. Another legend Dennis Bergkamp has been studying under Arsenal manager Wenger and had said that he might look into the opportunities the club offers in the coaching department. Thierry Henry could take a couple of leaves out of Bergkamp’s notebook. Henry could use his vast amount of experience to coach the up and coming starlets of Arsenal and help in building new young players who can successfully don the club’s colours. He could even be a scout in his home land of France from where Arsenal already draws a good chunk of talented players into its roster. Arsenal relies a lot on its young talents and the inputs of all time greats like Bergkamp and Henry could go a long way into moulding these players into successful professionals.
Henry would certainly be welcome at Arsenal.
