Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Target £6m Defender
Chelsea are ready to continue their summer spending spree with a move for French right back Mathieu Debuchy, who could be available for just £6m this summer.
The summer transfer window is open and Football Talk will bring you all the latest Chelsea transfer news.. Today, the Blues are linked with France defender Mathieu Debuchy.
Chelsea are ready to move for French right back Mathieu Debuchy, according to the Mirror.
The reports claims that the Lille ace has been strongly linked with a £6m move to Newcastle this summer but Blues owner Roman Abramovich is set to hijack the deal and tempt the defender to Stamford Bridge.
Debuchy has been in impressive form at Euro 2012 so far, with his displays against England and Ukraine catching the eye of Chelsea officials.
Despite speculation suggesting the 26-year-old was set to move to St James’ Park, the Mirror claim the European champions will now prove stiff competition for his signature with new boss Roberto Di Matteo looking to strengthen the right back position following the departure of Jose Bosingwa.
It’s believed that Branislav Ivanovic, who was a regular at full back last season, is now wanting to move back to his preferred central role, leaving a hole to fill at right back.
Ajax’s Gregory van der Wiel has also been linked with a move to West London, but at £6m Debuchy is considered a far better piece of business.
FT Verdict
This would be a superb signing for Chelsea and sort out an area that has proved troublesome in the past.

Ivanovic filled in well at right back last season but is more comfortable in the centre, and if Chelsea can snap up Debuchy for as little as £6m, then it could prove to be the buy of the summer.
