Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Radamel Falcao after Atletico Madrid ruled out selling the striker, according to the Daily Mail.
The Mail claim that the European champions have identified Falcao as a key summer recruit as the Blues look to find a replacement for Dider Drogba, who left the club on a free transfer this summer.
Falcao has proven to be one of Europe’s deadliest strikers in recent seasons and bagged 36 goals in 50 appearances during his first year at Madrid last season, helping the Spaniards win the Europa League.
Atletico have financial problems at present and it had been suggested the club could sell their prized asset to raise some much-needed funds. However, the clubs sporting director Jose Luis Caminero has ruled out the sale of Falcao this summer, claiming the Colombian will remain at Madrid.
When quizzed about reported interest in his player, Caminero is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail:
‘Falcao will remain at Atletico Madrid and any talk of an exit is misplaced. The club has very clear ideas on this,’
‘The striker will remain with us next season and we are not considering any other possibility.
FT Verdict
Falcao would be a superb signing for Chelsea but it’s understandable why Atletico are keen to hang on to him. His goal record is unbelievable and I’d love to see if he could cut it in the Premier League.

However, it seems we’ll have to wait a little while longer to find out as a move this summer doesn’t look likely. I think a move for Hulk is more plausible, despite Porto’s unrealistic price-tag for the player.
