Arsenal are ready to move for Toulouse’s French midfielder Etienne Capoue after manager Arsene Wenger pulled the plug on a move for Rennes ace Yann M’Vila.

Arsenal are ready to move for Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue after going cold on a move for Yann M’Vila, according to talkSPORT.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila throughout the past few months and were thought to be close to sealing a deal before the player flew off to Euro 2012.

However, it’s understood that Arsene Wenger has backed out of the proposed transfer after the player was involved in yet another disciplinary issue at the tournament.

talkSPORT claims that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is still keen to add a defensive-minded midfielder to his squad this summer and France’s under-21 captain Capoue has now emerged as a top target.

The 21-year-old has been in excellent form for Toulouse over the past two seasons and his manager Alain Casanova has admitted the club may be forced into selling their prized asset should a suitable offer come in.

“I hope to keep him, but if we get an offer we can’t refuse we will have to negotiate,”

“He’s a very good footballer with the potential to succeed in a great team in the best league in the world.”

Casanova is quoted as saying by talkSPORT

FT Verdict

I’d still love to see M’Vila join Arsenal as I think Arsene could turn him into a top player, and he’s just the sort of combative midfielder we need.

But if we really have pulled the plug on the Rennes midfielder, Capoue would be a decent alternative. He’s similar in style and would be a good addition, but is he THAT much better than the likes of Coquelin and Frimpong? I’m not convinced.

For christs sake nooooo!!!! Why does Wenger persist with the poxy French league. Sick of him. If you want success you shop at Harrods not Primark, ask RVP and Usmanov.

i know that emotions are running high right now but hey.
    1. Arsenal have totally given up on 2year olds and 3year olds”sensations”.A true gunners payer answered.Halleluyia!
The experiment has put arsenal afloat but has won nothing for 7years.
2.Now arsenal will want to appease the funs and that means adding to the squad by loosing an influencial player like RVP.Does this have to happen for arsenal to sign,i dont know.
3.we are now going to see atleast 3 signings so that we can win atleast a trophy.Mvilla,Dzegoev and Lloris atleast. Cahnces are we will get a striker in Cisse.
Four to six players in a transfer window will make us champions.
    Sorry gooners,some work to do!

Capoue’s 23 actually, but he’s the main DM in a very tight Toulouse team, and was voted into france’s team of the season. If this is who Wenger decides is the man to get, then he’ll be great.

You guys don’t understand capoue has had a better season than m’vila he’s more of a Dog style DM he likes to strike fear into this opponent M’vila is good but capoue is more of what we need that nutter on the field plus capoue is 6’3 so he has a presence . Don’t judge a book by its cover.

RVP should think twice, what was he thinking all those years when he was nursing his injures.

Firstly id like to get the elephant in the room out the way, Van Persie should leave. I have always been a big fan but i think it is the final straw i would now love him to go to city and sit on the bench for 2 or three years and not get time because the team won’t be based around him. Serves him right for what he has done to Wenger.
Secondly, Capoue is without doubt a good defensive midfielder with a lot of aggression, but would that really fit into the premier league? One rash tackle and youre off, hell if you touch a player its a freekick. It will just be the same case as when DENCH is on the pitch. M’vila may have disciplinary issues but Wenger IS the man to iron out those problems. He would also be more of a statement that we are moving forward and trying to keep up the challenge for the title, signing an unproven player from a low Ligue 1 side won’t do that.

Sagna was unproven by the same logic, and Kos wasn’t even recognised in France, and now he’s easily our best defender, and one of the best in the league. France has a league of tough defences and defensive midfielders: Toulouse has the toughest defence and Capoue is their DM. He was recognised enough to be voted into the french team of the season, ahead of Mvila.
Frimpong went overboard in his first few games but see how he did for Wolves – probably would have kept them up, such was his dominance of the midfield.
Capoue is not such a headcase as the still immature Frimpong, and is more of a DM. Sure he has a disciplinary record, but he’s not some loose canon and he apparently does his job better than anyone else in France.

Why is it that arsenal’s board and coach are so stubborn? I don’t think they can ever learn until they have finally destroyed the club. Am sick and tired of gunners policy as a fan. We claim to always make a good profit every season yet we behave like the most miserable team when it comes to signing good players. Is better I quit gunner b4 having heart attack. Every season same story, what the hell do you take the gunners fans for?

Statistically Capoue retains possession, makes more tackles and completes more passes than M’Vila. Chew on that for a second.

It is good we have Rvp wanting to leave arsenal, it is a blessing in disguise. What it has done is to open the cankerworm in arsenal with our lack of ambition. I am sure there would be a revolt, which would then make d board buy more decent players other than what we have seen lately. Possibly the ambition might now make RSVP to stay despite saying he would not sign.

I trust Wenger and if he wants to buy good quality French players like those that are being mentioned then long may it continue. Most of the best buys he has made in the past have been French, with some of them unknown at the time to English football fans. We are one of the only teams in the champions league to beat Barca by playing good attacking football and we still have one of the best teams to watch in the league. For me its only season ticket holders that can complain, arm chair supporters should be happy that we arent Liverpool or Spurs. We always create chances and I cant see an RVP replacement failing to score 20 goals plus. In Wenger I trust.

If given time, Frimpong is better. Y go 4 players who only come to be modelled then disappear when much needed? Train the English!

we are in need of attacking 1 midfielder, 1 center back and 1 decent striker.i don’t think DMF is the solution cz we are lack of scoring goals.

Capoue is polite and a proven gem but M’villa is rude and a yet to be proven story.I would back the acquisition of Capoue any moment of my day.

Capoue’s speculated move to Arsenal is already an old story and so, it should be removed from the blog, okay? Another thing, people talk of quality players: Who are the quality players? Like the Man City machinaries that could not qualify for Champions league knockout stage where Arsenal unregarded kids topped their group! Rubbish. Coqualin, Afobe, Anieke, Yennaris, Oxlade, Miyachi, Eisfeld, Wilshere, etc are quality players that Wenger groomed without neccessarily breaking the bank; and the trophy days are here for them now. Believe.

Why do we always have clubs fighting us when ever we indicate interest on a particular player and they do win us?. Is it bc arsenal do not have enough money or is our spending policy.
