Modric Agrees Four-Year Deal At Real Madrid

Man Utd and Chelsea look to have missed out on Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric after the player is reported to have agreed contract terms with Real Madrid.

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Football Talk will be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer news throughout the summer. Today, Luka Modric has moved a step closer to moving to Real Madrid.

Luka Modric

Man Utd and Chelsea look to have missed out on Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric after the player is reported to have agreed contract terms with Real Madrid, according to the Mirror.

The report claims that the Croatian is almost certain to leave White Hart Lane after making it clear to Spurs officials he wants to leave the club this summer.

Modric has been strongly linked with a move to Spanish champions Madrid in recent weeks and the Mirror now suggests that a transfer could be concluded in the next few days after the midfielder agreed terms on a four-year deal with Jose Mourinho’s side.

An apparent ‘source’ told the Mirror:

“Everything has been resolved satisfactorily.

“Luka and Madrid agree on everything. The only problem is the position of Tottenham, which has made things a little more difficult .

“But everything will be solved. And, more importantly, it will be resolved quickly.”

A ‘source’ told the Mirror

The only thing that remains is for Madrid and Spurs to agree upon a fee for the 26-year-old. Real are said to value Modric at around £28m, but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is holding out for a fee nearer £35m.

Modric has previously been linked with both Manchester United and Chelsea (source: Daily Mail) but its understood Levy would prefer to sell abroad rather than strengthen a Premier League rival, and may be prepared to accept a slightly lower fee from Madrid.

New Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas hasn’t given up hope of persuading Modric in to staying in north London but if he does lose his man, he will at least have a sizeable war chest to strengthen his squad with this summer.

Football Talk Verdict

While the validity of this so-called ‘source’ is questionable at best and it also has to be asked whether Tottenham would let their player negotiate contracts terms before a fee has been agreed, the transfer of Modric to Madrid does look like a formality.

No doubt it would benefit Spurs more to see him go abroad and despite Levy being one of the best negotiators around, i can see him coming to a compromise with the Spaniards and Modric will get his move.

Rubbish, real Madrid will not pay for the overpriced mediocre player, Levy will demand 40m and some idiot will pay it!

I kinda hope he stays but have a strong feeling he will leave as i really dont think he wants another season at spurs. If he leaves we need to get Moutinho!

Ratboy can “agree” anything he likes. It’s Tottenham Hotspur that own the player on a long term contract, and will only sell if it’s commerciallly and strategically advantageous for them to do so.

And how has he done that without being given permission to talk to them? Don’t believe all you read on the net Mr Mirror.

the mirror isnt the only site coming up with these rumors there are at least 15 sites. I thing tottenham fans are just scared that they will most likely lose their best player to another european giant and gareth bale will most likely leave as well. then tottenham will end up just like arsenal at the beginning of the 11/12 season. playing shit, and losing 8-2 to clubs like Man Utd and City

    The usual Mirror media rubbish
According to the laws of the game aplayer may not speak to any other club without the express permission from the club that he is contracted to.
I’m certain that Daniel Levy will be delighted to know that Modric has already agreed his own personal terms.
There is every chance that he will leave Spurs, but if he does it will be decided by Levy NOT Modric to who and for how much.

He has talked with them and prefers Madrid over others. Levy will wait to get 40 and as ever sell too late for less and not get a decent replacement. Karma that AVB was trying to get Mod last year and now he sees how it feels to be on the otherside bullied by a club of power

Mid-table this year then either better or worse from then but no way to know with AVB. I’m not convinced

Spurs are not being bullied by a club with power, we will decide if we sell Modric or not same as last year, if it doesn’t suit us we will not sell him. Chelski can mouth off all they like but we will not sell to them or the Mancs, we will only sell abroad and if Madrid dont come up with the wedge then he will be staying at the Lane.

Frankly who cares. Go Spurs nab as much cash as you can from whomever. Iniesta, Xavi, Messi he ain’t. He reckons he can mix it, i doubt it and he will be a good “bit” player at Real. Lotta players believe their own publicity. Modric is no different. I am looking forward to the on coming season where I think with two signings we will challenge second/third. Still can’t see anyone touching City.

get Nuri Sahin in exchange for Modric.

    • DaveYid

      July 8, 2012 at 11:41 am

If Sahin isn’t coming to Spurs as part of the deal, Modric will not go to Madrid no matter how much he throws his toys out of the pram and ‘no like chicken badge…’

  13. OldReigatian

    July 8, 2012 at 11:15 am

Levy wouldn’t let any player negotiate terms with a club before a fee is agreed. All that serves to do is weaken the negotiating position of Spurs, because the club Modric agrees terms with will know that they are the preferred option for the player.

Come come Stocky, are comments like that necessary? It’s hard for us supporters because we just want the good times to roll. We never stop to think about the players aspirations no more than they stop to think about ours. We should just thank him for what he contributed to the club and wish him all the best. I think it’s better to have a squad of professionals committed to the cause of THFC whatever their motivation. So lets forward to a new era and hope he doesn’t end up at another Premiership club to come back and haunt us. COYS

PEOPLE ARE VERY WICKED WHY IS IT THAT CHELSEA FANS WILL NOT LEAVE SPURS AND THERE OUT GOING PLAYER ALONE, CHELSEA WANT TO SIGN HIM SPURS REFUSE AND NOW HE IS GOING TO MADRID YOU PEOPLE STARTED VOILETING. AND REMEMBER CHELSEA TRYED THEY REFUSE AND MAN UTD TRYED THEY ALSO REFUSE NOW THEY WANT TO SELL ABROARD WITH A FEE THAT DOES NOT EVEN REACH MAN UTD OWN WHEN THEY ARE CHASING HIM TALK MORE OF CHELSEA OWN. BUT IF IT IS TRUE THAT MODRIC AGREED PERSONAL TERM IT WILL BE A DISGRACE TO LEVY AND SPURS ENTIRELY B/COS HE SUPOSE TO WAIT AND RECIEVE PERMITION FROM SPURS LET THEM AGREE DEAL WITH MADRIC BEFORE WILL AGREE HIS OWN.

modric is a good player worth playing for any top european club but to say chelsea want him desparately i will disagree b’cos we won the fa cup and ucl without him.40m on a player who is not confirmed a star(iniesta, xavi, alonso, gerrald and lampard will also agree with my point)is and will be too much perhaps may be Roman is not planning to buy spurs? If not that money will better off spurs in the transfer window than what modric will deliver at chelsea

Ridiculous article as ever from the mirror.
Why are these Chelsea ‘fans’ so desperate for modric? Marin and hazard not enough?
As its been said many times, this is all rubbish until a fee has been agreed with a club and if by fluke, he does go to Chelsea I would imagine spurs will get the better of the deal…..

Ok, so fro0m the previous comments, we can safely assume Saint Andre, Okite Nemx, Cmidi Peter and Edsom Phini are one in the same. In other words dumber and dumber.

Anyway little boys lacking education and grammar…SPURS will decide who he goes to and for how much (and it will not be to a little upstart team like Chelsea). Live with it, you are yesterday’s news and will soon be back to teh 2nd division, where you belong, when the Russian becomes bored spending money on you.
